- Fortune Street (pictured) is the first Itadaki Street title in the series to be released outside of Japan.
- If Mario and Luigi refuse to go into the Gauntlet, the Emoglobin at the door will mock the plumbers for being cowardly.
- If the Co-Star Luma is there when Mario collects a Power Star or a Grand Star, it will appear along with Mario in the "You Got a Star!"/"You Got a Grand Star!" victory pose.
- In an interview published in 1991 (in Nintendo Power's Mario Mania Player's Guide), Shigeru Miyamoto reportedly said: "Who knows what Mario will look like in the future? Maybe he'll wear metallic clothes!" Metal Mario then appeared in 1996.
