- Raccoon Mario 20:36 +1,991 Doc von Schmeltwick talk contribs (Considering the two are treated as interchangeable for SM3DL, Luigi's is the same species as itself (as a kitsune is itself a fox), raccoons are highly obscure in Japanese pop-culture, only one of the two has legends of it being able to fly with leaves, and most machine translations auto-translate "tanuki" to "raccoon," it seems fairly obvious - plus, the SMB3 manual refers to him flying as "'Nuki Mario" at one point. The Melee trophy DOES reference "araigumo," though, so it's not totally that.)
- Raccoon Mario 19:19 +14 JanMisali talk contribs (This statement was deleted the first time for being unreferenced. The interview cited later in this paragraph implies that it really was originally meant to be a raccoon. It's plausible that this was the original intention, but this statement needs its own citation backing it up.)
