Gray Coins[1][2], also described as silver coins[3], are coins that appear in Super Mario World. Pressing a Gray P Switch turns all enemies into Gray Coins for a limited time. However, Gray Coins work differently from standard coins in this game; if enough are collected, they give extra lives, similar to jumping on numerous enemies in succession. In certain levels, a trick involving hordes of enemies and a Gray P Switch can be executed to earn dozens of extra lives. This goes in order with collecting Gray Coins:

  • 400 - 1 Gray Coin
  • 800 - 2 Gray Coins
  • 1000 - 3 Gray Coins
  • 2000 - 4 Gray Coins
  • 4000 - 5 Gray Coins
  • 8000 - 6 Gray Coins
  • 1UP - 7 Gray Coins
  • 2UP - 8 Gray Coins
  • 3UP - 9 Gray Coins or more
