Boots
Sprite of the Boots in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

The Boots are Mario's normal footwear in the Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi series. In Paper Mario, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Paper Mario: The Origami King, Mario starts the game with his boots already equipped. When using a Jump attack in the first two Paper Mario games, the boots deal one damage to a defenseless enemy, although having different Badges on can increase damage done. They can be upgraded to the Super Boots and Ultra Boots later in the games, which enhance Mario's abilities.

In Paper Mario: The Origami King, Mario's Boots are a permanent attack option; he can also find or buy Shiny, Flashy, Legendary, Gold, or Iron versions of his Boots (the latter two grant Mario extra coins and let him jump on spiked enemies, respectively), which are stronger, but break after a certain number of uses.
