The Bone is a special item in Paper Mario: The Origami King. It is one of the few items required in a long line of trades. It is found in the possession of two Dry Bones using it to play catch. After winning the Baseball at the Shuriken Dojo, Mario must speak to the Dry Bones. One of them notices the baseball and asks for it in exchange for the bone. In order to advance into the story, Mario must accept this trade. The Dry Bones happily give it away.

Following this trade, Mario must bring the bone over to the petting zoo area and place it into Princess's dish. She quickly hops over and starts gnawing on the bone. Now that she is tame, Olivia pets her to receive a MAX UP Heart. Mario is now able to pass by to access the fishing pier and Ninja Attraction. Princess is seen nibbling on the bone for the rest of the game, rubbing up to Mario whenever he passes by.

A notebook inside the hut at the petting zoo notes Princess's aggressive nature when they run low on bones.
