Pendulum Platforms (also referred to as Pendulum Lifts[1] or swinging platforms[2]) are a type of platform found in the New Super Mario Bros. sub-series.
History
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Pendulum Platforms first appear in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They are chained red platforms that sway from side to side indefinitely, and they appear only in World 1-Tower.
New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
Pendulum Platforms return in New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, exhibiting exactly the same behavior as in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, albeit now being colored blue. They appear in Lemmy's Swingback Castle in the former and in Lemmy's Lights-Out Castle and Boo's Favorite Haunt in the latter.
