One of the Boost Pads that appear in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!.

Boost Pads (also called Dash Panels, Zippers, Rainbow Boosts, Rainbow Ramps or Turbo Tiles) are special pads that appear in the Mario Kart Series. When driven over, Boost pads accelerate the speed of the car, propelling it forward until the effect eventually wears off. Boost pads are commonly paired with ramps to cross large distances and gaps. Using Mushrooms and Mini-Turbos have no effect when driving over Boost Pads, however, slipstreaming proves effective.

Appearances

Boost Pads have had various appearances, in it's first appearance in Mario Kart 64, Boost Pads appear as a yellow arrow, eventually evolving into red pads. In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Boost Pads appear as flashing rainbow pads and have appeared that way for every successor to date. However, in Mario Kart Wii, All retro tracks have their first game's design, such as the zipper in DK's Jungle Parkway, which appears as it did in its original Mario Kart 64 appearance.

Objects that behave similarly to a boost pad in the Mario Kart series appear in Diddy Kong Racing, where they are known as Zippers.
