Template:Character-infobox The Subcon King (Japanese: サブコンキング, Sabukon kingu) is the king of the dream world of Subcon. His sole appearance is in BS Super Mario USA. The Subcon King rules peacefully along with many Subcons. His world was attacked by the 8-bits, led by Wart, in Super Mario Bros. 2.
History
BS Super Mario USA
The king is a character shrouded in obscurity. He apparently ruled over the kingdom of Subcon until the froggish Wart appeared out of nowhere. The Subcon King has been attacked with their kingdom and his people by Wart and the 8 bits ever since the beginning of Super Mario Bros. 2. Finally, the Mushroom Kingdom's great hero, Mario, with the help of his brother Luigi and their friends Toad and Princess Toadstool, saved Subcon, with its king and inhabitants, from Wart's evil spell.
BS Super Mario USA is the only game in which the king appears (or even exists, for that matter). In this game, the Subcon King was quite a helpful character. Like the main characters and villains, the Subcon King also appears frequently as a card in front of the screen. He spoke his lines like everyone else and would perform some special effects for Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess Toadstool to assist them on their quest. Like others, the Subcon King could either cause earthquakes like a Pow Block, allow characters to make heavy stomps on the ground, transform Mario into his invincible form, destroy all enemies of the screen's range, or give bombs to him.

Character Description
The Subcon King is a human who rules over Subcon, he has a similar appearance to that of King Fret and Prince Pine from Yoshi's Safari. He has a height as tall as Mario and The Subcon King is a human who rules over Subcon, he has a similar appearance to that of King Fret and Prince Pine from Yoshi's Safari. He has a height as tall as Mario and Birdo. He is taller than characters like Toad. But he is shorter than Luigi and other taller characters. Even though the king is human, his body is bit similar to that of a Toad, however, his legs look a bit thinner than other characters, except Waluigi. He has a pert, pointed, defined nose like Princess Toadstool. His lips are covered by his blonde mustache. Unlike certain charcters, the Subcon King has no eyebrows. He has eyes similar to that of a Toad. The Subcon King is characteristically portrayed as wearing a floor-length red cape.
Powers and Abilities
Like certain characters in BS Super Mario USA, the Subcon King is skilled with magic. He could do some do some powerful magic to assist Mario on his quest when he often appears as a card on the screen, however, he randomly cast his spells for the hero. The Subcon King could cause earthquakes like a Pow Block to kill foes, allow characters to make heavy stomps on the ground, turn Mario into his invincible form, destroy all enemies within the player's range, or give bombs to him.
Relationships with other characters
Wart
- Main article: Wart
Wart attacked Subcon and suppressed his people. For a brief time, Wart seized control over Subcon in the Subcon King's place with the help of the 8 bits. As such, there is naturally some bad blood between them. In BS Super Mario USA, the King offers Mario and friends help and protection, whilst Wart obviously tries the opposite - though their magic never seems to affect the other.
Mario

Though the relationship between these two is unknown, it should be noted that there are golden Mario statues littered throughout the land. This may be due to the fact that it is primarily meant to be Mario's dreamscape. The King casts his magic on Mario to transform into his invincibility form, allow him to make heavy stomps and more, proving that the Subcon King and Mario to cooperating well. Of course, the same goes for the three other stars, who could be switched randomly (mostly by the five villains' spell themselves).
