The Wiggler Family is a family of Wigglers that work as farmers in Dimble Wood. They appeared in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. For generations, they have been in charge of running Wiggler Family Farm and the protection of the family's greatest heritage, the Giga Carrot, a giant carrot that was grown by the family's first ancestor and has since been the family's responsibility to keep it growing.

History

In the game, Bowser was looking for a Banzai Bill to load into a cannon that his minions, Private Goomp, Corporal Paraplonk, and Sergeant Guy set up for an attack on his own castle, which was currently being held by Fawful. While searching, he ends up on Wiggler Family Farm, where he finds the Giga Carrot. Seeing that it is the same size as a Banzai Bill, he plucks it from the ground and hopes to use it as ammo for his cannon. However, a large Wiggler appears from the Giga Carrot's hole, claiming that Bowser had no right to pluck his family's legacy, but Bowser shows no concern whatsoever and only asks the Wiggler if he has a Banzai Bill. The Wiggler claims that he does, as a long time ago, a Banzai Bill landed in the pasture and he has been taking care of it ever since. He agrees to give Bowser the Banzai Bill, but in exchange, he requests that Bowser must take responsibility for his action by eating the entire Giga Carrot. However, after Bowser eats it, the Wiggler becomes angry, complaining that Bowser had no right to eat it (even though he was the one who forced Bowser into eating it in the first place). He then proceeds to attack Bowser. After Bowser defeats the Wiggler, he runs back into his hole and gives Bowser the Banzai Bill and asks that he leave his property.

Members

Aside from the family ancestors, only two known members of the family are shown in the present time-line of the game, which consist of a small Squiggler who tends to the garden and a large forgetful Wiggler who lives beneath the Giga Carrot and acts as a boss in the game.

The Squiggler

This young Squiggler was met by Bowser shortly after arriving at the farm. It is very knowledgeable about vegetables and their health benefits and dislikes those who disrespect vegetables. It eerily believes that someday, those who insult vegetables will pay. It upholds Princess Peach's standing order on farming and believes violence isn't farm fresh, and prefers to grow fine organic vegetables without the use of pesticide. When Bowser dismisses the idea of eating healthy vegetables and inquires if there is any meat around, the young Squiggler remarks that a healthy body craves no meat.

The Wiggler (Boss)

This large Wiggler lives beneath the Wiggler Family Farm and acts as the protector of the Giga Carrot, which was planted by his grandfather's, grandfather's, grandfather's, grandfather's, grandfather's, grandfather's, grandfather. He appears to be very forgetful and quick-tempered as shown when he attacked Bowser for eating the Giga Carrot even though he was the one who told Bowser to eat it. For unknown reasons, he secretly took care of a Banzai Bill that fell on his property a while back.

Boss Battle

In battle, the Wiggler becomes enraged, thus making him immune to any damage from Bowser and he can use many different moves. His head and four body segments can be targeted, though only his head can lose HP. To make him vulnerable, Bowser must attack the four body segments just once in order to switch them from red to yellow (though if he hits them again, they will go back to being red). After a few turns of being yellow, the Wiggler will fly into a rage and turn red again.

His most noticeable attack is when he stands up straight and his front pair of feet morph into hands. He then gets a watering can and waters the ground, making Turnips and Leaf Guys grow there. A green stalk indicates a Turnip and a light green sprout with two leaves is a Leaf Guy. The Wiggler will go up to each plant and yank it out of the ground to attack. If it's a Turnip, Bowser must wait for it to bounce toward him after it lands and then punch it to pieces. The larger the vegetable, the more damage it will deal if it hits. If the Wiggler pulls out a Leaf Guy, Bowser must duck down after the Leaf Guy is done falling out of the air to dodge it swoops at him. After a few Leaf Guys are plucked and attack, two of them will later appear on the top screen with a giant Turnip, waiting to drop it on Bowser (though they may also appear at the start of the battle); Bowser can inhale the Leaf Guys, causing the Turnip to fall on the Wiggler and turn the first three of his segments yellow. He can also circle around Bowser, charging at him after going around a few times. During this attack, Bowser can punch some of the Wiggler's body segments to weaken him, though he must be careful and refrain from hitting segments that are already yellow. To evade the charge, the Wiggler's flashing head must be punched as he is passing in front of Bowser. The last attack that the Wiggler uses is two-fold- he will first attempt to ram Bowser with his front pair of raised legs. Bowser simply needs to punch him when he is close enough, but the Wiggler will repeat the assault two more times, raising up a segment after each punch. After being punched for the third time, the Wiggler will be standing on his back legs and then teeter forward to try and body slam Bowser; this can be blocked by using Bowser's shell. It is best to attack the Wiggler's last segment first, since a majority of his attacks will always end up with Bowser turning the first three segments yellow.

  • Aside from growing carrots, the Wiggler boss has also shown the ability to grow turnips and Leaf Guys, which can pluck larger turnips from the ground, implying that the family farm may also grow turnips and that the Leaf Guys may aid in the harvesting of the crops.
  • Another Wiggler appears later on in the game, guarding the southwest area of Dimble Woods, but whether or not he is a member of the Wiggler Family or the same Wiggler from before is never mentioned, although he is aware of Bowser's attack on the Wiggler Farms.
