Blades of grass from Super Mario 3D World.

Grass is a common world element encountered in various Mario titles, but they only serve actual importance to the gameplay of the game, Super Mario Bros. 2. In Super Mario Bros. 2, tall blades of grass emerging from the ground would mean that the player could pull on them to pull out a vegetable. Other items blades of grass could contain underneath the ground include Magic Potions, Bombs, Small Hearts, Red Shells. Stopwatches, Coins or Rockets.

Inspired by their function in Super Mario Bros. 2, grass returns as an item in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U. When a player pulls on blades of grass emerging from the floor of the stage, any random item will be plucked into the player's hands. Grass has a brownish coloring in this game.
