Yellow Toad, Super Mario Galaxy

Yellow Toad is a lazy and sleepy Toad from Super Mario Galaxy, who is a member of the Toad Brigade.

History

Super Mario series

Super Mario Sunshine

Yellow Toad first appears in Super Mario Sunshine, where he is one of the five young Toads that accompany Mario, Princess Peach, and Toadsworth on their vacation to Isle Delfino. Upon arrival, the group finds the island a mess. Soon after, the villain Shadow Mario appears and kidnaps Peach. This causes the Toads (Yellow Toad among them) extreme sadness and worry. The Toads provide no help, as they spend most of their time in Delfino Plaza. Yellow Toad is usually found alongside Purple Toad and Toadsworth; often running around worrying about the Princess. Out of the six Toads in the game, these three tend to worry the most. In the ending, the Toads are shown to be much happier as Mario rescues Peach and cleans the island. Yellow Toad is seen enjoying himself during the end credits alongside the other Toads.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong

Yellow Toad reappears in Mario vs. Donkey Kong, where Red Toad, Blue Toad, and he are employed at the toy store. They are working joyfully, enjoying the Mini Mario toys that were produced there, until Donkey Kong arrives and steals them. After Mario defeats Donkey Kong in Twilight City Plus, Yellow Toad can be seen alongside Mario, the Mini Marios and the other two Toads, apparently laughing at Donkey Kong, who had lost all of the Mini Marios that he stole. In his anger, Donkey Kong grabs the three Toads and climbs up on top of a tall tower. However, Mario defeats him again and saves the Toads.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Headline text

Yellow Toad jumping into action.Yellow Toad, supposedly nicknamed Ala-Gold by Nintendo developers[1] and Wolley by IGN forum members[2], appears in New Super Mario Bros. Wii for the first time as a main hero and a playable character. The game begins as Princess Peach's birthday is being celebrated by the princess herself, the Mario Bros., Blue Toad, and Yellow Toad. During the festivities, a massive cake is brought into the castle. Immediately, Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings emerge and they kidnap Peach. Yellow Toad bravely follows closely behind the two Mario Bros. (with Blue Toad behind him) as they set off on a quest to save Princess Peach.

Throughout the adventure, Yellow Toad along with his allies would have to face many of Bowser's minions ranging from Goombas to Hammer Bros. Eventually at some points of a world, Yellow Toad would have to fight some of the mini-bosses in the games. These mini-bosses are: the Koopalings, Bowser Jr. and Kamek, who all have rather different fighting styles. Upon defeating all the mini-bosses, Yellow Toad would find himself at Bowser's Castle at the end of world 8. After going into the castle, Yellow Toad would have to fight the Koopa King himself and eventually upon surving the battle and causing Bowser to fall into defeat, Yellow Toad along with his friends would be able to save the princess. After freeing her from her cage, Peach would give a small kiss for Yellow Toad and the other heroes as a thank you for saving her.

In the end of the game, Yellow Toad can be seen riding a hot air balloon alongside Blue Toad and Luigi (however the latter has his own balloon). Once Luigi allows Mario and Princess Peach to ride in his balloon, they soon take off before he could get it causing him to be left behind. Fortunately, the two Toads invited Luigi to ride in their balloon for the journey back to Princess Peach's Castle.

Super Mario Galaxy

Yellow Toad appears in Super Mario Galaxy as one of the members of the Toad Brigade. Out of the group, Yellow Toad seems to be the most careless and lazy, as he is often seen sleeping in the game. For this trait, he received from the other Toads the nickname "Sleepy." However at times when he is not asleep, Yellow Toad can be seen as a rather immature character as seen in the Purple Coin challenge in Deep Dark Galaxy, where he is seen dancing under a spotlight while the other Toads stay around the area cautiously. After assisting Mario on his quest, the members of the Toad Brigade (including Yellow Toad) are revealed to have been promoted to Royal Guards of Princess Peach's Castle.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Yellow Toad also appears in Super Mario Galaxy 2 again as a member of the Toad Brigade. He can often be found in different galaxies either helping Mario or sleeping. He is also one of the many characters that can be found on the Starship Mario. He stands near a Warp Pad that leads to the Toad Brigade's Starshroom.

Characteristics

Personality

Yellow Toad, like many other characters in the series, is still a rather undeveloped character. His personality is often seen changing in many of the games that he does appear in. In Super Mario Sunshine, he is seen as a rather worrisome character despite the fact that he is meant to be a jolly character as seen in the intro. In Super Mario Galaxy, he is shown to be a rather lazy character as he is seen sleeping for nearly the whole game. New Super Mario Bros. Wii, however showed a direct opposite personality in comparison to his worrisome self in Super Mario Sunshine as he is able to bravely join the Mario brothers on their journey to rescue Peach.
