:That's what they're based on, but they're called 'crystal balls' in the advertisement (both versions, {{file link|MvsDK_JP_Cover.jpg|and JP box art}}. That said, they're definitely redesigned in the remake. You can tell they're plain orbs in the original, and in the animation where the Mini-Mario is freed, the ball shatters as if it's made out of glass; in the remake, you not only see both halves, but it breaks apart like it's plastic (as if should, the original was a safety hazard!).
