A Sweep Kick[1][2], also called Trip[3][2], is one of Mario's various moves that debuts in Super Mario 64. The action is performed by holding Z Button and pressing B Button, which causes Mario to swing his legs around in a circular motion. This kick can damage any surrounding enemies or breakable objects.

The move returns in Super Mario 64 DS, where Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, and Wario are able to perform the Sweep Kick. The move is activated by pressing the attack button while crouching, which are different buttons depending on the control setup. While Yoshi is able to perform the move, due to his low attack power, some enemies, such as Boos, are impervious to the attack.

A similar, albeit unnamed, move can be performed by Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. While crouching with Nunchuk Z Button, the player has to shake the Wii Remote or Nunchuk. Upon activating the move, the character will Spin while crouched. Likewise, the Tail Wag from Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario 3D World also acts similarly, though it is quicker, continuous, and can be used while moving.

The Sweep Kick also is used by Mario as his down smash attack in the Super Smash Bros. installments prior to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
