The Garnet Star is the sixth Crystal Star, found at Pennington's home, the Poshley Sanctum in the game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. This was hidden in the painting at the Sanctum for safety, while a fake one was put out in the open to fool any would-be thieves, including the Shadow Sirens, Bowser, and Kammy Koopa.

The Garnet Star is the sixth of the Crystal Stars Mario collects in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, obtained after finishing Chapter 6: 3 Days of Excess.

This Crystal Star will teach Mario the move Showstopper, which costs two SP. To use this move, the buttons must be pressed in the order that they appear on the screen. If used correctly, it may defeat all on-screen enemies with one blow; however it does not work on bosses.
The Garnet Star is kept in a secret area of the Poshley Sanctum in Poshley Heights, which the Sanctum's owner, Pennington, did not even know about. A fake Garnet Star is on display in the main hall of the Sanctum, which is meant to attract tourists and trick thieves, which works on the Shadow Sirens and Doopliss, as well as Bowser and Kammy Koopa, as they confuse it with the real thing. This makes the fake Garnet Star an actual red herring, fitting the detective theme of Chapter 6. Upon finding the real Garnet Star, it teaches Mario the move Showstopper.

It is similar to the Star Spirit ability, Up & Away, from Paper Mario. However, Star Points are awarded if enemies are defeated in this manner, unlike the Up & Away ability.
During the final battle with the Shadow Queen, when the Crystal Stars spread out to the locations in which they were found, the Garnet Star returns to the Poshley Sanctum, where Pennington (realizing Mario is not Luigi), Toodles, Goldbob, Bub, and Sylvia root for Mario and his team before they defeat the Shadow Queen.

Names in other languages
*The Garnet Star is the only Crystal Star that is not earned from defeating a chapter boss, since the boss is already fought on the Excess Express.
