Expansion Blocks[1] are blocks that resemble pink-spotted Egg Blocks in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (and its reissue), Yoshi's Island DS, and Yoshi's New Island. However, they do not release eggs. Instead, when struck from below, an Expansion Block expands to help a Yoshi go higher. However, after a set amount of time, the Expansion Block shrinks back to its normal size.

Trivia

The sound that the Expansion block makes is based off of an unused sound from Super Mario World.
