This is the first [[Power Star]] of [[Dire, Dire Docks]] in ''[[Super Mario 64]]''. This is such a key star and will activate the entrance to [[Bowser in the Fire Sea]]. When the player collect the star from the top of the sub, it will get rid of the sub through an opening of the side of the level. It will also allow poles to appear which will help the player collect the [[Red Coin]] star.

The [[Power Star]] for this mission is located on the deck of [[Bowser]]'s Submarine. To get to it, the player must first [[swim]] to the second area of the course through the tunnel, then climb onto the boardwalk along the wall. Pressing the [[! Switch#Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS|Purple Switch]] causes some [[block (Super Mario 64)|block]]s to appear, which the player can use as platforms to reach the top of the Sub. The Power Star is on the opposite side. In ''Super Mario 64 DS'', a [[Bill Blaster|Blaster]] is added to the Sub.


== Shortcut ==
Collecting this Power Star opens the way to [[Bowser in the Fire Sea]]. Once Bowser in the Fire Sea is completed, the Sub moves out of Dire, Dire Docks through the newly opened hole. However, the Power Star remains and can still be collected with a well-executed [[jump]] from the [[pole]]s. In the DS version, collecting this Star after the Sub leaves is easier by using either [[Yoshi]]'s [[Flutter Jump|Flutter Kick]], [[Luigi]]'s [[scuttle]], or [[Mario]]'s [[Balloon Mario|balloon ability]].

When the player have already completed the star and he/she try to do the red coin star, the player can still collect the star floating in mid-air. Of course, the star will only be shadowed because it has already been collected. The player have to jump on the pole and time Mario jump correctly to collect the star in mid-air. It's fun, try it.
