In ''Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon'' and ''Luigi's Mansion 2 HD'', the Dark-Light Device is an add-on to the [[Poltergust 5000]], and it can be used by pressing {{button|3ds|Y}} in the original 3DS game and {{button|switch|Y}} or {{button|switch|L}} in the Switch remaster. When [[Luigi]] uses the Dark-Light Device, his flashlight instead emits a rainbow-colored light, which allows him to see objects that are hidden in a manner similar to an {{wp|black light|ultraviolet lamp}}. After shining the Dark-Light Device on these objects, Luigi needs to vacuum the [[Spirit Ball]]s that are revealed so that the objects can become visible again. However, the Dark-Light Device has an energy gauge represented by a rainbow-colored meter in the top right corner, and if the Dark-Light Device is used for too long, it overheats. A few upgrades to the gauge can be acquired from [[Professor E. Gadd]] by collecting treasure and leveling up. The Dark-Light Device can also reveal [[Polterpup]] tracks so Luigi can follow them, [[Boo]] trails to follow a Boo, and [[Toad (species)|Toad]]s, [[coin]]s, or [[gem]]s trapped in paintings. The Dark-Light Device is also usable on [[ghost (Luigi's Mansion series)|ghosts]] such as [[Greenie]]s and [[Sneaker]]s. Sneakers are revealed when hit by the light, while Greenies start to taunt Luigi. The Dark-Light Device is also required to free [[Mario]] from [[Mario's Painting|his painting]]. In the [[ScareScraper]], Spirit Balls do not come out of revealed furniture, and if one Luigi has been cursed, other Luigis can use their Dark-Light Devices on him to remove the curse.

In ''Luigi's Mansion 3'', the Dark-Light Device is an add-on to the [[Poltergust G-00]]. It is found inside a safe in the [[Mezzanine]]'s [[Storage Room (Mezzanine)|Storage Room]]. The Dark-Light Device is used by pressing {{button|switch|X}} and functions as before, but it can now be held indefinitely without overheating. In addition to revealing hidden objects and freeing objects and characters trapped in paintings, the Dark-Light Device can also be used to reveal the purple Spirit Balls inside [[Possessed Bin]]s and [[Takarabako Obake]], as well as [[Polterkitty]]'s tracks, similarly to Polterpup in ''Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon''.
