Shuries[1] are enemies introduced in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. These starfish creatures are encountered in the underwater areas of Donkey Kong Island and Crocodile Isle alike. Their name is an abbreviation of shuriken, a spinning weapon which incidentally resembles a starfish.
HistoryEdit
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong QuestEdit
Shuries are enemies in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. They are encountered in many underwater levels, starting with Lockjaw's Locker. Shuries appear in orange and pink variations; the former type spins through the water in diagonal lines and bounces off of walls, while the latter type awaits Diddy and Dixie Kong in a corner before spinning in their direction. A Shuri can damage the Kongs on contact, like with other enemies. Shuries can be defeated by Enguarde only. In the cast roll, a Shuri is grouped as part of the Submerged Seadogs.
Donkey Kong Land 2Edit
Shuries are enemies in Donkey Kong Land 2. They can move in only straight lines, unlike before.
Super Mario-kunEdit
A Shuri makes a brief cameo in Volume 14 of Super Mario-kun. The last part of the book has a series of comics based on Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, including a 'find the differences' activity between several enemies, including Shuri.
Donkey Kong 64Edit
Shuries are enemies in Donkey Kong 64. They are encountered in a few underwater areas only, and all of them are colored orange. Shuries were also given a purple variant in scuba gear, Scubi. Shuries retain their attack patterns from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. In one of Angry Aztec's temples, it is possible to defeat a Shuri with an Orange, although it does not yield any melon slices for doing so; besides this, Shuries cannot be defeated otherwise.
DK: King of Swing / DK: Jungle ClimberEdit
Shuries are enemies in DK: King of Swing and DK: Jungle Climber. In both games, they retain their attack pattern, and can be defeated from a charge attack.
