The Dino Piranha is a large boss enemy in the video game Super Mario Galaxy. The boss lives in the Good Egg Galaxy. It is inside an egg when Mario first encounters it. Its egg is cracked when Mario crashes into it with the power of a Boost Star. The Dino Piranha then starts moving around from inside the egg, thus starting a battle.
Appearance
Dino Piranha's head looks like that of popular boss Petey Piranha, though her body is much different. The Dino Piranha's body beneath the Piranha Plant head is that of a dinosaur's, with a green hue and has light green lips. Her tail has a brown orb at the end of it with texture like a seed. When it first breaks out of the egg her head is purple, but when enraged she turns red with anger, and when she is defeated it turns sickly pale.
The creature (or a similar creature) is fought once again at the Melty Molten Galaxy. This version of Dino Piranha is called Fiery Dino Piranha. Her body is dark red, and its egg is black with red spots. Her petals are similar to that of a palm tree, and has white lips, in contrast to her other, less fiery likeness. Her tail lights on fire, it can leave a fiery trail behind it, and in her final form she shoots fireballs.
Both forms of Dino Piranha let out high pitched, infantile squeals when attacked or enraged.
Combat
When Mario smashes into the egg containing the Dino Piranha the egg cracks a little and her tail pops out. The bottom of the egg breaks open so the Dino Piranha can move about while still in the egg. Mario must run up to her tail as she is walking around and hit her with a Star Spin. This will cause her tail to fly back and smash the rest of the egg open. The Dino Piranha is now fully revealed and starts running around the planet. Mario must hit her tail again so that some petals are knocked off her head. Now enraged, the Dino Piranha stomps around the planet, but it is hit by Mario twice. With no more petals, the Dino turns a sickly color and explodes, revealing a star.
Trivia
- In the game's ending, the Dino Piranha appears on the castle grounds next to A circle of Goombas with pumpkins on them and Toads playing.
