Super Mario Strikers -- Heads Up, parsed in-game as Heads-Up, is a promotional online Flash game published by Nintendo around the release of Super Mario Strikers for the Nintendo GameCube. It was listed in the Nintendo Arcade, a now defunct section with web games on Nintendo's website.[1] The game is still existent on the site's servers and is playable via digital archives.
Gameplay
The aim of the game is to collect as many points as possible while repeatedly heading a soccer ball as Mario. He can be moved across the screen with the left and right arrow keys, in order to catch the ball. While moving, Mario often runs into Mushrooms and Blue Shells that spawn at regular intervals on the screen and have different effects on him. Mushrooms speed him up and make him glow red, while Blue Shells cause Mario to slow down and glow blue. The item currently at hand is stored on the top-left corner of the screen.
Points are collected by bouncing the ball into character icons, which appear at random positions on the screen; at the same time, a voice clip of that character is heard. Each character icon is worth a number of points, depending on the character depicted on it. In order from least to most valuable, these are:
- brown – worth 2 points.
- limegreen – worth 4 points.
- Template:Color-link-piped – worth 5 points.
- green,
- DAA520 and Template:Color-link-piped – worth 8 points.
The current score and the high score are shown at the bottom of the screen. The game is over when the player fails to catch the ball. The game over screen offers the option to either replay the game or visit the official website for Super Mario Strikers.
