The Purple Yoshis are a species of Yoshi That first appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. The Purple Yoshis in this game play the fifth stage of each eight-stage world.

One appears in the intro of Yoshi's Story, and an ongoing rumor stated that it could be unlocked as a playable character by collecting all Heart Coins in each stage. This, however, has been proven false.

They also appeared in Super Mario Sunshine. Yoshis can turn purple by eating a Durian or a Pepper. While purple, their juice would turn enemies into platforms that moved in one direction horizontally.

They reappeared in Yoshi's Island DS, with an identical role to that of Yoshi's Island.

Appearance

In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Purple Yoshi debuted with purple skin and orange shoes with an orange saddle. However in the Gameboy Advance remake, Purple Yoshi wore pink shoes.

Although Purple Yoshi had artwork for the game Yoshi's Story, and was even in the intro sequence, he was absent. However, in his artwork he had dark pink shoes, and a red saddle, which would remain his design from then on, except for Super Mario Sunshine, where he wore orange shoes like the other Yoshis in that game.

It was once thought that Purple Yoshi had wings, but this too has been proven as false.
