Awards Director Election

Here is where you can post your campaign! Have fun, and good luck!

Candidates

Perch / Pitohui

Hello, everyone! In a shocking plot twist, this year features a new candidate ticket! I'm running for Awards Director this time around due to a strong interest in the position, and Pitohui's graciously agreed to be my Sub-Director for this project. There's big shoes to fill, with everything Anton's done to make the Awards one of the most beloved and important facets of the community. Our goal is to show that we can keep the Awards strong and truly a community project, while putting our own ideas on it as we go!

Hello, all of you readers of The 'Shroom and members of the community! I'm Hooded Pitohui (since you're reading this part of the paper, you might have guessed that already, admittedly) and, just as Perch mentioned, I've come along to serve as his Sub-Director this year. It's been a pleasure to see more and more members of this community contributing to or taking part in community events and projects like The 'Shroom and Awards season, and my goal for next year, as part of this ticket, is to bring even more community members (and their creative ideas for games and tournaments) into the fold by making it even easier for them to participate and, more importantly, giving them reasons to want to participate. With the extremely strong framework and streamlined process that Anton and Turboo have built up over the years, I'm confident we can do just that!

Relevant Experience

Superchao (Director):

  • Current Forum Moderator (2012 - Present)
  • Awards Committee Member (2011-2012, 2016-2021)
  • Awards Committee Subdirector (2013-2015)
  • 'Shroom Director (2014, late 2016, late 2019)
  • 'Shroom Sub-Director (2017-2018)

Hooded Pitohui (Sub-Director):

  • Current 'Shroom Director (January 18th, 2020 - Present)
  • Current Strategy Wing Director for The 'Shroom (October 2018 - Present)
  • Awards Committee Member (2019 - 2021)
  • Community Awards Dossier primary contributor (2019-2021)
  • Chairperson of the 11th Poll Committee (July 2020 - July 2021)

Plans

For the most part, we intend to keep the framework built by Anton and Turboo and used in previous years, including:

  • Designing the schedule for the year in such a way that there are a guaranteed three weeks of time to create presentations, with two weeks of normal working time, and one after the soft deadline.
  • Ensuring that deadlines are communicated effectively to presenters, and that we continue the system of checking in with presenters to effectively keep track of what presentations may be late and which presentations may require back-ups.
  • Considering the relevancy of awards, and removing or altering awards as necessary to ensure awards offers interesting results while reflecting an up-to-date view of the Mario franchise, Nintendo, and the community.
  • Continuing the system of forming an Awards Committee, formed by interested and engaged applicants, to assist with the creation of polls and to consider and propose other ideas related to Awards.
  • Continuing to partner with other members of the community and other projects, including:
    • Working with the Poll Committee to ensure Awards polls are displayed on the Main Page
    • Working with The 'Shroom to craft a Community Awards Dossier and to promote Awards within the community
    • Working with the Wiki's staff to advertise Awards through avenues like the Super Mario Wiki Twitter account.
  • Listening to the suggestions of both the Awards Committee and community members in general, in order to help us further refine Awards as a whole and to help us decide our agenda for the year.

In addition, our plans specific to this year include:

  • Considering, with the assistance of the Awards Committee, the best venue for the Chat Party on the day of the ceremonies.
    • Moving the Chat Party to Discord this past year proved successful, but, based on comments we've heard, we think there's merit in considering the pros and cons of hosting it in the official Super Mario Wiki server versus creating a server for Awards and hosting it there.
  • Continuing to monitor and adjust to changes which Crowdsignal may make to its service, and ensuring that we have suitable software for creating polls that will allow us to continue to use the pollsorter.
  • Evaluating the best way to schedule and post presentations on the day of the Ceremony.

In addition to the members of the Awards Committee selected from applicants early next year, we'll be requesting assistance from a few other trusted advisors who will be helping us as Awards Staff Consultants. These members include:

  • Lakituthequick, who has, in previous years, served as Awards Record Keeper, and who we have asked to remain in that position.
  • The Pyro Guy, who has expressed keen interest in the Awards process and multiple suggestions.
  • Smasher, who has longtime experience with the system of Awards.

If elected, we'll do our best to bring the Awards to you with all the skill, care, and success you've come to know and trust from Anton and his team! Let's come together to make 2022 a fantastic year for Awards!
