The Areku Hakase Tetris Genshō Kenkyūjo is the school run by Dr. Areku that appears in the Super Mario Land 2 volume of the KC Deluxe Super Mario manga. As a school specialized in Tetris, the structure resembles a tower made out of every kind of Tetrimino.
After Mario almost lost the Tetris challenge given to him by King Tetris, Luigi manages to unplug the screen, causing the king to postpone the challenge to tomorrow. Areku arrives and invites Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach to his institute to train them for the challenge. After Areku gives them winter clothing and invites them inside, the temperature inside is set to the typical cold Siberian climate, complete with a snow storm, with the objective being to beat the cold by following the rhythm of Cossack music while climbing to the top. While Peach and Luigi manage to follow the instructions, they slip on the stairs and Mario continues to climb the building alone. The second part of the training is meditation, where Mario must become one with the Tetriminos and learn to move, rotate and crawl like them to master their movement. After two hours of excellent training, Mario and his friends sleep on a bed of hay.
The next day, Mario proves to be successful in beating the challenge, with Luigi, Peach, and the citizen of Toad Town playing Cossack music to give him rhythm.
