The Return Pipe is a key item in various RPG games. It is a type of Warp Pipe acting as means of quick travel to the hub area or to other places at any point in the game.

HistoryEdit

Super Paper MarioEdit

“With this, you will be able to return to Flipside from anywhere in the universe! Use it whenever you feel you must return in a hurry.”

The Return Pipe is an Important Thing in Super Paper Mario. It is given to Mario by Merlon at the start of the game after Mario places the red Pure Heart on the Heart Pillar. It resembles a red Warp Pipe with white stripes on it. The function of the Return Pipe is to return the player back to the Flipside Tower from any dimension at most times. However, in some places, such as Mimi's sweatshop in Merlee's Mansion, Sammer's Kingdom, The Underwhere during Chapter 6's interlude, the Flipside and Flopside Pit of 100 Trials, and during Dimentio's game of "magic tag" in Chapter 8-3, the Return Pipe cannot be used. It also cannot be used during a boss fight. The Return Pipe also can lead to the Flopside Tower if used at Castle Bleck.

Mario & Luigi: BrothershipEdit

The Return Pipe reappears in Mario & Luigi: Brothership, now resembling a Golden Pipe. It is given to Mario and Luigi by Willma after defeating Gorumbla. It can be used by pressing . The Return Pipe allows the Mario Bros. to return to Shipshape Island or any other island linked to Shipshape at most times. Enough space in the area is required to place a Return Pipe (without being obstructed by additional walls or solid scenery), otherwise the player cannot use it.

The Return Pipe cannot be used in the following areas:

Shipshape Island
Any island that has not been connected to Shipshape yet
Any of the Great Lighthouse Islands
Any islets (the player needs to use the cannon at the start of the area to return to Shipshape)
Wayaway Island
Fortress Zokket
Soli-Tree
