Uploads
Hello, DarkNight. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:
When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the aboutfile template, replacing the uncategorized template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use: or Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing. |
Hello, DarkNight. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly use the aboutfile template. What you were doing looks like this, and it is an inconvenience for other users to fix up the template. It is simple to learn how to format it correctly. The pre-loaded syntax is shown below. Just replace the necessary parts with that corresponding information, and remove the entire line for the parameter(s) you don't use. Please consider the above information before uploading more files. If you continue using aboutfile incorrectly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing. |
Hello! Thank you for your recent contributions. When uploading images, please remember to remove the sections of the aboutfile template that you do not use. Additionally, please remember to replace the uncategorized template with the game's image category (for example
. Thanks! -- TheFlameChomp (talk) 13:45, June 10, 2020 (EDT)
Be sure to check any associated articles, galleries and category pages to see if similar images exist first before uploading. Also, I don't know how you're saving the source images, but you seem to be uploading lower-quality versions of them when there are higher quality versions found in the sources you provided, so it'd be worth checking the page through first.
One last thing, regarding this edit: Avoid using "you" on articles (instead, we use "the player" or the character's name), and game titles should be italicised (so Super Mario 3D Land is formatted as Super Mario 3D Land). The "Star Coin" you're referring to is Star Medal, which already has an image. Mario JC 01:41, June 11, 2020 (EDT)
- Please do not crop your images, as you are not cropping them properly and you are giving smaller images than the source provides. And as they are screenshots, you don't need to crop them anyway. Just upload them as they are. 16:16, June 11, 2020 (EDT)
Don't upload small thumbnail versions of images please. Visit the associated page(s) and get the image from there, not from the search engine results pages. Mario JC 22:12, June 15, 2020 (EDT)
You aren't quite adding categories correctly. Rather than Paper Mario: The Origami King Images, it is . 14:19, July 8, 2020 (EDT)
RE:Can I help?
Sure, you can help. Do you know any that my list doesn't have yet? Scrooge200 (talk) 23:58, June 18, 2020 (EDT) I ment that can I help fixing them? DarkNight (talk) 23:59, June 18, 2020 (EDT)
- How so? Modding the game or something? Scrooge200 (talk) 00:48, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Never mind, I thought it was in an article. By the way, can we be friends? DarkNight (talk) 00:54, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
- This is mostly just a list for personal interest, not an article. And yeah, we can be friends. Scrooge200 (talk) 01:13, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Categories
Keep in mind in the future that category pages themselves need categories as well. For example, Category:Paper Mario: The Origami King Bosses needs the type category Category:Paper Mario Series Bosses and of course the game category Category:Paper Mario: The Origami King. Refer to MarioWiki:Categories or even other categories on the wiki to see which ones they need.
Also, remember that titles for games and publications need to be italicised (Paper Mario: The Origami King should be Paper Mario: The Origami King, Dr. Mario-Kun should be Dr. Mario-Kun etc.) See MarioWiki:Manual of Style#Italicizing titles. Mario JC 02:45, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Recall what I said here regarding italics. They need to be formatted like this every time you name a game title yourself on articles. Mario JC 23:34, August 3, 2020 (EDT)

Something odd is happening
1. My userpage in mobile view doesn't show some of the sections even though I did ==this==. Also, in desktop view, the font changes to Times Roman even though I didn't change it. 2. Sometimes I can't edit templates. Can someone help?DarkNight (talk) 19:54, June 25, 2020 (EDT)
Stub articles
The page(s) you recently created (Kamek's Curse) has/have been put up for deletion, has been deleted, or turned into a redirect. This may be because it violated at least one of the policies and/or guidelines of the Super Mario Wiki. There are some things you can do to ensure this doesn't happen again.
If the article has only been tagged to be deleted you can still fix or expand it, but an administrator may delete it at any time, so please act quickly. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing! |
When making articles, make sure you have enough information to finish it. Don't just leave it in an incomplete state for someone else to handle. 15:08, June 26, 2020 (EDT)
Moving files
After moving a file, you need to correct all links that lead to it. You can find these by clicking "What links here" on the sidebar when viewing the original file name. Afterward, you mark the redirect for deletion. 20:26, June 30, 2020 (EDT)
RE: Friends?
Sure! My userbox code is on my userpage. Niiue - Who has lost his tail? 19:56, July 2, 2020 (EDT)
Moving articles
After moving an article, please make sure to fix any double redirects left behind (redirects that still link to the old name) so they link to the new name. You'll find those by going to Special:WhatLinksHere (the "What links here" link under "tools" on the sidebar in desktop mode), typing in the old name, and clicking "Hide links". Additionally, like Alex said, it's recommended that any links to the old name should be fixed eventually as well, though double redirects are a greater priority. (If there are a lot of pages on WhatLinksHere, it's likely because the old name is used on a template; in that case, you change "Namespace: all" to "Template" and fixing it there should clear out most of the list.) Mario JC 02:45, July 7, 2020 (EDT)
Outright removing the old links is not what you're supposed to do; otherwise the reader won't have any way to visit the page. You need to link to the new name, while keeping the old name as the display name in the link. This is called piping, which is done like so: Link display name
(example: Jelly Pop
which creates Jelly Pop). Please don't be afraid to ask if there are any questions. Mario JC 01:07, July 16, 2020 (EDT)
Ref Names
To do the ref name stuff, you do , and then future instances of that same reference can do . Information on references and citations can be found here. MarioComix (talk) 01:02, July 8, 2020 (EDT)

Friend Userbox
Do you think you could help me set one up, 'cause I wouldn't mind being friends as well. It seemed a bit complicated for me. Nightwicked Bowser
I want the image to be the black coated figure on my signature and userpage, the text to be "This user has formed a connection with the Keyblade Master", and color codes:
- Border: 000000
- Mainbkgd: 808080
- Codebkgd: C0C0C0
- Codecolor: 000000
I actually had no idea of these color codes before doing this. But thanks in advance, and sorry I didn't get back to this right away. Nightwicked Bowser

Sorry, I prefer not exchanging userboxes unless I've already gotten to know the person. I appreciate the gesture though! Also, I'm not really active on the wiki anyway. I'm more active on the Boards, so that's a good place to go in order to talk with me. (talk · edits) 18:22, July 16, 2020 (EDT)
New article / image width
When creating a new article, you need to add any relevant navigation templates (if any exist) and categories, like Category:Paper Mario: The Origami King Characters (refer to MarioWiki:Manual of Style#Navigation templates and MarioWiki:Manual of Style#Categories).
Also, I know you're on mobile, but please make sure to specify the width of unframed images (like infobox images) as TheKarateToad has done for you here, as not doing so will make the image appear in the original file's width and, if the image is large, will cause it to take up the whole screen for desktop users. Mario JC 01:00, July 19, 2020 (EDT)
Again please don't forget to specify a width when you're transferring an image to an infobox. The "thumb" keeps it in an appropriate size, so by removing that, you're adding the image in its original resolution and if the original image is large, this happens. Mario JC 00:30, August 7, 2020 (EDT)
Though if it's a small sprite, you usually don't need to specify, as adding "100px" to an 80px sprite for example stretches it out and makes it look worse. If it's something bigger than that, you do. Check the file page to see its original width and base it on that. Mario JC 00:56, August 7, 2020 (EDT)

I don't know you very well, so no. Sorry, dude. Bloopity bloop. 12:43, July 20, 2020 (EDT)
Mobile View
Yeah it did change only while logged in, but if you want the old layout back, go to your account settings and to the "appearence" section, then you can choose the layout. There is a "preview" option to make sure before you save changes. Nightwicked Bowser
- I don't see it. Is it in the preferences? (I checked there and the layout already) ...DarkNight (talk) 13:58, July 22, 2020 (EDT)
- I actually can't find the setting any more for some reason, since I've already changed it. But you could try asking Porplemontage direct you to it. It was somewhere in Preferences though. Nightwicked Bowser
- Ok, I can now give you full instructions. Go to the "Preferences" page and to the "Appearence" tab. The "Skin" section is where you want to go where under "Mobile Skin" choose "Minerva". Don't forget to save changes at the very bottom of the page after choosing it. Nightwicked Bowser
- Thanks a lot! DarkNight (talk) 15:29, July 22, 2020 (EDT)

Question
I would like to know what is considered "Someone else fills out the page".
I do not have a source for 100% areas. If you can link a source that has 100% details all the way up to the Origami Castle, great, but otherwise I cannot help with that. I can however make pretty much all other info for the other places in Paper Mario: The Origami King. Please give reccommendations/tasks to me as you see fit.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by DaBluePipe (talk).
- It literally means putting information in the page, and you don't need to make the pages yourself if you don't know much about the game (if that's what you're saying), and there is someone else creating the pages with lots of detail as we speak. Nightwicked Bowser

RE:About that proposal...
It's going to be implemented in the form of a list. Best not to give too much coverage to fan-made courses: a list can perfectly present the information Nintendo gave about them, such as descriptions, makers and IDs. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 20:26, July 30, 2020 (EDT)

- Are you going to do Super Mario Maker 2 as well, or just Super Mario Maker? -- DarkNight 19:09, August 8, 2020 (EDT)
- I'm sorry I didn't respond earlier, but I didn't see your message here. I am not aware of any fan SMM2 courses promoted by Nintendo, so I'm not currently planning on making a page for them. Perhaps there are some official Twitter posts or something out there that I can find with a quick search, but I imagine it would be quite difficult to level their amount to the sheer number of SMM1 courses that Nintendo promoted over time on multiple sites.
EDIT: I looked up "#SuperMarioMaker2 @NintendoAmerica" on Twitter and scrolled until no more posts were loaded for me. It appears Nintendo hasn't done much to promote fan courses in this particular venue. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 10:56, August 17, 2020 (EDT)- Edit conflict. Maybe you can merge them, because I saw a few on their Facebook (but you have to scroll all the way down). I also saw another one, but I don't know if it's official. Paper Macho Crater Crushers
The description is "Paper Macho Soldiers who dropped into Hotfoot Crater. They're tough, so do your best to stay cool under pressure!" Like I said in the talk page, it wouldn't really be good for the Paper Macho Parabomb page unless all of those were merged into a page titled "Paper Macho Crater Crushers. Also for future reference, all the collectible treasure descriptions are on the Musée Champignon page already. Nightwicked Bowser

- The image didn't show any pepper at all, just the fire, and the size didn't help either. It was also smaller than your source again (this is the original size). I'm not sure what device you're using but to get the original image, you need to tap/hold the image on the webpage and then tap the "Open image in new tab" option. Infoboxes
Usually, the coding you need in order to use the infobox is displayed on the infobox page itself. For example, Template:character infobox shows the coding and explains the parameters, you just need to copy the coding to the page you want and fill out the parameters. All infobox templates are found at Category:Infobox templates. 12:37, August 29, 2020 (EDT)

Reporting
You don't need to put a report on the admin noticeboard right away if someone is not being sensible. Usually minor stuff like that filename change would warrant a message on their talk page at the least. It's only necessary to put a report if that person is straight-up vandalising pages or if they keep doing what they have been told to stop. Nightwicked Bowser
- Yes, that page should only be used for serious vandals which need to be blocked asap. The changing of filename in this case wasn't so serious as to warrant a ban straight away, nor was it clear that the user joined with the intention of vandalising (it could've been an inexperienced editor making a genuine mistake). Thank you for looking out for the wiki though, DarkNight! We really appreciate it.

Re:Audience Dialogue
Maybe, but the audience is pretty responsive, with dialogue changing depending on enemies and Mario's actions. It might be a bit too long for the quotes page, especially if it gets expanded with more dialogue. Scrooge200 (talk) 12:32, October 14, 2020 (EDT)
