Super Mario series[edit]

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[edit]

  • Trading Card description: Don't turn your back on this ghost. The ultimate sneaky spook, Boo will not make a move when you look at it, so stare it down to keep it in one place. Turn away for an instant and it will be hot on your trail. You will find Boos in ghost houses throughout the game. Use a Star power-up to take these spooks out.

Card number: 25

Super Mario Run[edit]

  • Notebook bio: A shy ghost, this bad guy will stop moving if you look at it. You can defeat it by jumping over it with a backflip.

Item description[edit]

  • Boo Statue: This Boo statue looks pretty soft, but if you give it a tap its shy side will come out.

Mario Kart series[edit]

Super Mario Kart[edit]

Don't look so surprised—even some ghosts are shy! It's like a game of Red Light Green Light: your face means stop, and the back of your head means go. So be very careful if you turn your back. Boo also shows up in the Mario Kart series, making your kart invisible to other racers. (American English)
Even ghosts can be shy, and these guys are so shy, they can't even attack you if you're watching! It's kind of like they're always playing a ghostly game of statues. Just don't turn your back on them and you'll be all right! That said, they make fine allies in the Mario Kart series, where they can turn you invisible for a while. (British English)

Boo’s the name. Scary is the game!

The bravest heroes in the Mushroom Kingdom know better than to turn their backs on Boo. This ghostly creature floats through some of the creepiest places in the Mario universe, from haunted mansions to underground lairs.
    [14]
  • Who's Your Mushroom Kingdom BFF?: Boo's a good friend, because it'll scare away your enemies. But it's also kinda shy, so don't stare at it.

Kids section of Nintendo Co., Ltd. site[edit]

Boo
A ghost that loves mischief, and often appears from dark areas.
Even though it slowly tries to fly down and approach you from behind, it seems if you turn and face it directly, it becomes embarrassed and completely unable to move.
Maybe its name Teresa comes from the word Tereya-san (shy person)?
There are various Boos, among them there's even a large Boo that wears a crown![15]

Mario Portal[edit]

「暗いところによく現れる、イタズラ好きなオバケ。
オバケなのにとても照れ屋で、目を合わせると恥ずかしくて動けなくなってしまいます。」

A ghost that appears in dark places and likes to play pranks.
Despite being a ghost it's totally shy, and upon making eye contact will become embarrassed and unable to move.

The official home of Super Mario[edit]

Mischievous ghosts who often appear in dark, abandoned places.

They may be spooky ghosts, but they're also incredibly shy. They will freeze in place and cover their eyes if someone looks right at them.[16]
