Tower Power Pokey is a boss first encountered in Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Being the leader of the Pokeys, Tower Power Pokey is a massive Pokey who gained its size from the power of the Royal Sticker it has.

History[edit]

Paper Mario: Sticker Star[edit]

Tower Power Pokey's story
Tower Power Pokey's backstory

In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Tower Power Pokey was originally a normal Pokey residing at Drybake Stadium until Kamek placed a Royal Sticker on its head, transforming it into a powerful monster. Kamek then placed the Pokey onto the top of the stadium and cut the stadium into three tablet pieces and placed them in various places of the desert, in order to hide the Royal Sticker. One tablet piece was placed at Yoshi Sphinx, where Kamek attempts to stop Mario and Kersti from obtaining the tablet piece. Another piece was located at a hidden cavern at Drybake Desert and the last piece was found by a Toad living at the Damp Oasis.

After Mario and Kersti manages to find all the tablet pieces, they use paperization to restore the stadium into its original state, causing Tower Power Pokey to be unsealed from the paperization. Once Mario manages to reach the top of the stadium, where an audience of Mural Goombas, Mural Koopas and Mural Toads are watching, Tower Power Pokey hides under the stadium, showing only its Royal Sticker. When Mario attempts to grab the Royal Sticker, the Pokey suddenly pops out and reveals its segments. The Pokey subsequently battles Mario but first hides all of its segments then progressively shows all of its segments. With the help of his stickers, Mario manages to defeat the corrupted Pokey, causing it to drop the Royal Sticker. Kersti then remarks that Tower Power Pokey is an example of the immense power of the Royal Stickers.

In the ending parade, Tower Power Pokey reappears with all the other bosses corrupted by the Royal Stickers.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[edit]

Tower Power Pokey, known as Paper Tower Power Pokey in-game, appears alongside a Big Pokey as one of the bosses in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. They are both encountered by Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario while travelling through Doop Doop Dunes, where the Pokey duo attack a bridge that the trio are trying to cross, causing them to fall into the Doop Doop Dunes Grotto. Once the trio make their way through the grotto and launch themselves out via paper trampoline, they find the Pokeys once again and proceed to battle them.

Tower Power Pokey is the only one of two Paper Mario-exclusive characters to appear in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, the other one being Sombrero Guy. It is seen wearing its Royal Sticker from Paper Mario: Sticker Star, despite Paper Petey Piranha not also wearing his. The gem on top of the Royal Sticker has been replaced by an orange spike.

Battle[edit]

Paper Mario: Sticker Star[edit]

In battle, Tower Power Pokey has a variety of attacks. It can use a spinning attack near the player that causes 2 damage for every revolution, with a total of five revolutions per attack. Tower Power Pokey may reveal some of its body segments from the sand, giving it substantial height. When Tower Power Pokey has one or more body segments revealed, it will attempt to topple onto the player for 7 damage. This attack can also give the player the Crumpled status effect. However, if it only has one body segment, the attack will miss. Using any Hammer sticker on Tower Power Pokey while its segments are revealed will cause Mario to take damage from the spikes. Sometimes, Tower Power Pokey may summon two green Pokeys in battle. Using the Bat, Toy Bat, or Newspaper sticker will attack all non-head body segments (unless the attack is used with three or less segments), rather than just one. Instead of the usual "FIGHT!", the screen displays "PLAY BALL!" at the beginning of the battle, possibly giving the player a hint. The only time Mario can use his Big Shiny and Megaflash hammers is at the start of the battle using the Battle Spin.

Once all the segments of Tower Power Pokey have been destroyed, it will resort to using its spinning attack. Occasionally, the boss can take off its crown to reveal its pink flower underneath. The Pokey will regain 10 HP every time it uses this attack.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[edit]

In battle, Paper Tower Power Pokey attacks by curling into a ball and attempting to roll into either Mario, Luigi or Paper Mario, and by hitting the segments of the Big Pokey towards the trio; both of these attacks must be countered using the group's Hammers. Additionally, the Pokey duo also have a chase attack, where they will charge towards Mario and Luigi simultaneously, which the Bros. have to avoid by jumping over them at the correct time; holding onto Paper Mario's Paper Airplane form if they are being attacked by the Big Pokey, as Paper Tower Power Pokey will fold up before charging, allowing it to be simply jumped over. If the Big Pokey is defeated first, Paper Tower Power Pokey becomes furious and stronger, and vice versa. Once defeated, the trio continue onwards to Bowser's Castle.

Appearance[edit]

Tower Power Pokey without its segments.

Tower Power Pokey looks like a normal Pokey in appearance and color, but due to the power of the Royal Sticker, it gains a noticeable sheen. Its eyes also become yellow, as for the other foes empowered by the Royal Stickers. Unlike the other Pokeys in the game, instead of having spikes on its head, the Tower Power Pokey dons the orange Royal Sticker that covers a pink flower.

In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Tower Power Pokey has a lot more spikes on its segment body, and now has spikes on its head.
