'''Yellow Toad''' and '''Blue Toad''', collectively known '''Toads''', and sometimes individually as just '''Toad''',<ref>''New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe''</ref> are [[Toad (species)|Toads]] who made their first appearance in ''[[New Super Mario Bros. Wii]]'' as playable sidekicks for [[Mario]], along with [[Luigi]]. Yellow Toad and Blue Toad have reprised their roles as playable characters in ''[[New Super Mario Bros. U]]'' and ''[[Super Mario Bros. Wonder]]'', and they have also made appearances in various other games as well.

 

In ''[[New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe]]'', Yellow Toad and Blue Toad share one character slot under the generic identifier of "Toad," and the two can be switched between on the character select screen by holding the L or ZL button (SL button when playing with a single Joy-Con).

Yellow Toad and Blue Toad appear as two of the playable characters in ''[[Super Mario Bros. Wonder]]'', this time being separate characters differently from ''New Super Mario Bros. They are first seen in the opening accompanying Princess Peach riding on [[Yoshi]] in their visit to the [[Flower Kingdom]]. When Bowser appears, along with [[Bowser Jr.]] and [[Kamek]], and fuses with Florian's castle to become [[Castle Bowser]], Yellow Toad tries to protect Peach while Blue Toad appears frightened and cowering much like Luigi, however both of them join their friends in their journey to collect all [[Royal Seed]]s and defeat Bowser.

Yellow Toad along with Blue Toad are featured in the forty-first and forty-second issues of ''[[Super Mario-kun]]''. As the story is based on ''New Super Mario Bros. Wii'', the two Toads are introduced as Mario's new accomplices. Throughout the adaption of the two issues, Yellow Toad plays an important role by journeying alongside Mario, Luigi, and Blue Toad on their quest to rescue [[Princess Peach]] from [[Bowser]] and his forces.

Both Yellow Toad and Blue Toad are seen in their [[Propeller Mario|Propeller forms]] on the cover of issue 41.

In ''[[Mario Sports Superstars]]'', Yellow Toad and Blue Toad are playable characters in soccer and baseball in their [[Flying Squirrel Mario|Flying Squirrel]] and [[Penguin Mario|Penguin]] forms respectively. In total, Yellow Toad and Blue Toad appears in four different [[List of Mario Sports Superstars digital cards|collectible cards]] in their [[Penguin Mario|penguin forms]] and [[Flying Squirrel Mario|flying squirrel forms]].

Yellow Toad, Blue Toad, and the other ''New Super Mario Bros. Wii'' heroes were shown as some of the featured characters in the [[Nintendo 3DS]] tech demo. Yellow Toad and Blue Toad were shown wearing the [[Propeller Mario|Propeller suit]] in the demo as like in the original game's box art. The 3DS tech demo screen of ''New Super Mario Bros. Wii'' (featuring the Toads and their friends) is later an obtainable puzzle in the Puzzle Swap mode of [[Nintendo 3DS#StreetPass Mii Plaza|StreetPass Mii Plaza]].

 

 

Yellow Toad, Blue Toad, Mario, Luigi, the Koopalings, and various other characters from ''New Super Mario Bros. Wii'' made cameo appearances in the Wii game ''{{wp|Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Minna de Party Sandaime}}'', where the characters can be seen dancing to the various tracks featured in ''New Super Mario Bros. Wii''.

In ''[[Super Mario 3D Land]]'' Mario is joined by three Toads in his adventure to rescue Princess Peach and defeat Bowser, including a yellow Toad and a blue Toad.

''[[Mario Party 9]]'' features a yellow-colored Toad as the host for the boards and a blue-colored Toad as the host for the minigames, since the game bases a number of minigames and environments on ''New Super Mario Bros. Wii'' it's possible those Toads are Yellow Toad and Blue Toad.

''[[Luigi's Mansion 3]]'' features a yellow-colored Toad and a blue-colored Toad (along with [[Toad]]) accompanying Princess Peach in her trip to [[The Last Resort]]. Their role as Peach's Toad companions bares a resemblance to Yellow Toad and Blue Toad's roles as seen in their appearances. Whether they are Yellow Toad and Blue Toad or different Toads is unknown.

In all of their appearances, Yellow Toad and Blue Toad are shown to be noble characters, who are able to venture alongside the Mario Bros. on their dangerous mission to save [[Princess Peach]] from Bowser and his minions; a force that most Toads tend to be afraid of. They are also shown to be kind and compassionate as seen in the ending of the game where he happily invites Luigi to ride in their hot air balloon after he had been abandoned (albeit by accident) by Mario and Peach. In the introduction of ''New Super Mario Bros. U'', Blue Toad is shown to be even more finicky than his partner Yellow Toad as he is seen to be in an extreme alarm when Bowser's mechanical arm pulled away the Princess.

''Super Mario Bros Wonder'' is the first time their personalities are clearly differentiated in a game. As seen in the opening, Yellow Toad is shown to be the more courageous of the two, immediatelly jumping in front of Princess Peach to try and protect her from Bowser, while Blue Toad crouches in fear similarly to [[Luigi]].

In ''New Super Mario Bros. Wii'', Yellow Toad has a higher pitched voice that is very much like the voice that the [[Yellow Toad (Toad Brigade)|Yellow Toad]] of the [[Toad Brigade]] had in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'', who also sounded higher pitched in comparison to the other Toads in the game, while Blue Toad has a lower pitched voice. However, since ''[[New Super Mario Bros. U]]'', the voices of Yellow Toad and Blue Toad were changed, with Yellow Toad having a lower pitched voice while Blue Toad has a higher pitched voice.
