Simple. Just get a Blue Shell and run with the X or Y button... it'll do it automatically. :-)Krizzy 19:29, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Merge Shell Dash with Shell Mario[edit]

Settledproposal.svg This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

KEEP ARTICLES SPLIT 2-11

The Shell Dash is just an ability gained from the Blue Shell power-up. I think this doesn't deserve its own article, and should be mentioned in the Shell Mario article.

Support[edit]

  1. ThirdMarioBro (talk) Per proposal.
  2. superfiremario (talk) The article is so small, it should be merged.

Oppose[edit]

  1. Yoshiwaker (talk) - Supernova Is just an ability gained from the Crystal Star, should we merge it? No; a move is important enough to merit its own article.
  2. Xzelion (talk) – Per Yoshiwaker.
  3. UltraMario3000 (talk) Per YW.
  4. Reddragon19k (talk) No way! Per YW!
  5. Goomba's Shoe15 (talk) per YW
  6. Magikrazy51 (talk) We wouldn't merge Propeller Lift with Propeller Mario. Never mind, per all.
  7. Bop1996 (talk) Per Yoshiwaker.
  8. Mario4Ever (talk) Per all.
  9. Bowser's luma (talk) Per Yoshiwaker and what Magikrazy strikthroughed.
  10. Mario Bros.! (talk) Per all!!!!!!
  11. DKPetey99 (talk) Jump is a move from all of Mario's power-ups. Should that be merged? No. Per all.

Comments[edit]

Crystal Star technically isn't a power-up, but the Blue Shell in NSMB is. There's a difference, and that makes merging this specific article a different situation. ThirdMarioBro (talk)

Irrelevant, the analogy is close enough to apply, the point made still comes across. Bop1996 (Talk)

Conjectural?[edit]

Is it ever actually specifically referred to this when used in NSMB and SM3DW, or is this conjectural? Peanutjon (talk) 16:12, 9 June 2014 (EDT)

Capitalization?[edit]

Question.svg This talk page or section has a conflict or a question that needs to be answered. Please try to help and resolve the issue by leaving a comment.

I'm a bit hesitant on whether the title should be capitalized or remain lowercase. On the one hand, the NSMB manual has referred to the move as "shell dash" once, "shell dashing" once, "Shell Dash" once, and "shell-dashing" twice, which kind of provides some sort of argument for using lowercase treatment. On the other hand, there have been many instances of official Nintendo materials inconsistently alternating between capitalizing certain words making up a subject and just giving it the lowercase treatment. They even do this within their own games; in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team for example, the narration text for collecting a key item gives it a lowercase treatment, but the game's key item menu capitalizes the words making up the subject. So, leading back to my first sentence...which shall it be? Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 23:52, October 29, 2021 (EDT)

I think that can be answered by comparing the British English version - note that it capitalizes a handful of things that remained uncapitalized in the American English manual (see P Switch Blocks, ! Switch Blocks, and ? Switch Blocks under "Switch Blocks"), yet they did not care to edit the lowercare instances of shell dash and shell-dashing/shell dashing, and they did mind to edit that body of text to remove highlights and add a mention of the Control Pad by name, so this is something that could have easily been done (on a similar note, I also feel the same way about "ground-pound switch", which is like that across multiple manuals and versions). These manuals treat this as mere stylization for the header text, like it does for other objects and actions such as block, fence, stomp, slide, etc. I think that's a separate discussion from key items in the RPGs, in which the main text the player will be seeing is through the menus.
