Move to "King Boo (species)"

You know there is a proposal that could possibly decide that King Boo (Super Mario Sunshine) could be merged with Mega Boo. The Super Mario Galaxy 2 PRIMA Official Game Guide also refers this species as King Boos. I was wondering if there's a possibility to move this page to "King Boo (species)". Once the proposal decides that the article for the King Boo of Super Mario Sunshine gets confirmed to be merged with this page, the article will be renamed.

1. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - Literally why? Just because we could move it there doesn't mean we should, "Mega Boo" is more consistent and is the more recent name.

Nintendo101 (talk) To me, the value in referencing the Japanese text lies in the fact that that is the language the games were originally written in, the IP-holder and creative people speak that language, and, consequently, the Super Mario series has been subject to more thoughtful and critical standardization in Japanese. The names are more accurate reflections of which subjects are actually suppose to be the same entity, and which ones are not. In English and other languages, the names applied to the characters, enemies, and bosses in Mario are filtered through translators, and the intent or consistent organization that is present in the series' home country is not always retained. Some subjects go by a different name in sequentially released games in English localizations, whereas they are called the same name consistently in Japan. So I do not think it is substantive to rely on the language used in a western guide to lump Mega Boo with Boss Boo. The Prima guides in particular are yet another degree of separation from the original intent, because Nintendo themselves are not the ones who make them. I am inclined to think the use of "King Boo" here was an accident and do not reflect relatedness to Boss Boo. They also do not share any of the same behaviors.

There is absolutely no reason to prefer the "King Boo" name over the "Mega Boo" name, seeing as it's the less consistent and recent one as Doc said, and even if it wasn't, we have source priority exception specifically to avoid unnecessary shared names like this. Just because something has had another name at some point doesn't mean we should move to it. We're not trying to pick our favourite official names, we're trying to use the most reliable, recent, and accurate ones. (And also, I wouldn't be too hopeful that your proposal to merge Sunshine King Boo here with barely any evidence will pass)

5. Arend (talk) And let's rename both Banzai Bill and Bull's-Eye Banzai to "King Bill", whydont'cha. Because one random name that's already shared with other entities has priority over the more unique name just because it came from the PRIMA guide, right?! ...Even though the "Mega Boo" name also came from the exact same PRIMA guide AND had been used on more pages than the "King Boo" name? Per all, this is stupid.

It should be noted that the PRIMA guide is a bit inconsistent as they refer to these giant spooks as King Boo on the exact same page as they call it Mega Boo. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 08:59, February 23, 2024 (EST)
