Sliding Haymaker[edit]

In game it is called the Sliding Haymaker shouldn’t it be called that? [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 14:51, April 6, 2019 (EDT)

"(called sliding haymaker by a Save Block)" It's already on the page. Sliding punch is used more commonly. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:56, April 6, 2019 (EDT)

But it just dosen’t make sense to use a non in-game name when there is one. Also I just beat the game and everywhere I checked it was called The Sliding Haymaker. I just don’t get it... [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:37, April 6, 2019 (EDT)

Where did you get that name anyway? [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 17:43, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
From the Prima guide. TheDarkStar Sprite of the Dark Star from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey 17:51, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
FROM THERE! Oh that makes things more difficult should we go by The offical Nintendo name or the Prima guide name... Maybe I should make a propulsal? [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:00, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
I really think I remember both being used in the original. In fact, I think I only recall seeing the "haymaker" thing by a save description, and noticing that because of how odd a name it seemed at the time. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:01, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Let me check my copy of the remake on my 3ds real quick. [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:02, April 8, 2019 (EDT)

I can't look through the entire game anymore, but anyone know of a script dump we could look through? Google turns up nothing. (Also, a Save Block description is still in game.) Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:03, April 8, 2019 (EDT)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure in dialog it was called a sliding punch. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:04, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Manuel says this
  • Bowser’s Actions
  • X Button Punch/Sliding Haymaker
  • Press X Button to break rocks
  • and other such obstacles
  • with a punch. To perform
  • a powerful Sliding
  • Haymaker, press X Button while
  • moving with Circle Pad
  • Note: This is exactly how it says word for word line for line!!! [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:08, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
The original manual has "Sliding Punch" on page 22. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:11, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Why not say this... called Sliding Haymaker in the remake? [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:13, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
It was called that in a save block in the original, though, it's just that everywhere else called it a Sliding Punch. What about the in-game dialog for the remake? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:14, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
In my game it said that bowser just learned the Sliding Haymaker! By guess what! A save block! [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:15, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
That's what the original said. What did dialog say? What did Bowser and Starlow call it while talking? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:16, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Let me check I have my remake right next to me! [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:16, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
In the guide section of the Star Menu it says Sliding Haymaker! [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:18, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
And from what I remember they called it the Sliding Haymaker! [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:18, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
And I remember them saying punch in the original. I'd like some verification that dialog changed. Youtube video would be nice. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:19, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
I have a text copy on Word, and they call it punch(es)(ing) while moving when it is available. Red Yoshi in a construction hat walking Yoshi the SSM (talk) 18:21, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
This the original or the remake? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:21, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
original. Red Yoshi in a construction hat walking Yoshi the SSM (talk) 18:23, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
I checked a video and it says punch while moving! But that could just be instructions and the Sliding Haymaker is the NAME of the move!? [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:27, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
I think thats it. [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:32, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
So there wasn't a script change with that....probably should be moved, then, even if it's a less-intuitive name. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:34, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Wait what does that mean? [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:35, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
We could also name it Sliding punch/Haymaker! [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:37, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Nah, that'd be silly. What I meant was that "punch" makes more sense than "haymaker" on a logical standpoint, because "haymaker" is more obscure. However, if this is the name they're trying to use consistently here, than that's that. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:45, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Also the prima guide was a third-party company when the guide was made and Sliding Punch is the instructions and the game makes it seam like that Sliding Haymaker is the name! [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:48, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Why not say called Sliding Haymaker by a save block and in the remake? [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 18:56, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
I've found THREE gameplays of BiS and literally nobody saves after Bowser gets the sliding haymaker!! We really need a source ASAP, guys. --Tent2 KirbySleepingAnimated.gif 19:12, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
"Haymaker" was indeed said in the original by the save block. I again remember it because of how odd it sounded. Also given how much trouble the Durmite gave me on my first playthrough, I made sure to save immediately then. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:34, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
We should make it the offical name then [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 19:38, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
I agree. Red Yoshi in a construction hat walking Yoshi the SSM (talk) 19:41, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Should I tell Alex95 or should we wait for more people? [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 19:43, April 8, 2019 (EDT)

(indent restart) If Haymaker is more commonly used, then sure. I'm not finding any text dump, and let's plays are unhelpful. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:45, April 8, 2019 (EDT)

Ok then I can’t do it. But you can (I think)... [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 19:46, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Right? [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 19:51, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Technically, "sliding punch" is just a name used by the characters generally, its like a enemy getting some random nickname that is used more in the story rather than the official one in the wiki. --Tent2 KirbySleepingAnimated.gif 19:54, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
@Tent2 Wrong, the original manual capitalizes both words. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:59, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
No, the manual capitalises "Sliding Punch" for the header like all headers, but the Emoglobin underneath it calls it a "sliding punch". Mario (Gold) costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 21:00, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Then why, pray tell, does the EU manual pdf I looked up have it in capitals while "pipe" a page back isn't? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:06, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Er, is it called "sliding haymaker" or "Sliding Haymaker"? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:56, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Sliding Haymaker it is a name! [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 19:59, April 8, 2019 (EDT)

Page has been moved. Could use an actual ref for Haymaker if we can get one. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:08, April 8, 2019 (EDT)

"Bowser learns the sliding haymaker. He sets out for his castle once again!" Either this or 3DS manual. Red Yoshi in a construction hat walking Yoshi the SSM (talk) 20:11, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
I can cover for the 3ds manuel but how do you want me to do it? A page or a extra part in the M&L BIS + BJJ Page huh? [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 20:36, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
I will make a new page and link it! [-]€40 分@4¡0 (talk) 20:46, April 8, 2019 (EDT)
Yoshi the SSM was talking about which reference to use, not saying to make an article for the manual. The Save Block in both the original and the 3DS remake calls it a "sliding haymaker", so where did you see it was capitalised? Mario (Gold) costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 21:00, April 8, 2019 (EDT)

The in-game guide in the remake calls it the "Sliding Haymaker" Best Fitness Friends (talk) 21:53, April 8, 2019 (EDT)

Old, but regarding "Sliding Haymaker":

An action performed by Bowser.
Set the Action Icon to Punch and throw a sliding haymaker with while Bowser is walking.
Use this move to break rocks that a normal punch can't and to glide over small ditches.

The remake "Guide" is lowercase. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:26, December 3, 2022 (EST)
