'''Candies''' are special items found in ''[[Mario Party 8]]''. As Candies replace the [[Orb]]s of ''[[Mario Party 6]]'' and ''[[Mario Party 7]]'', players can collect and eat the Candies found throughout the [[board (Mario Party series)|board]]s to either help themselves or hinder the progress of their opponents. Upon eating a Candy, the player is granted a specific ability for their current turn. Their physical appearance may also change. A single player can hold up to three Candies, while a two-player team can hold up to five. If a player has too much Candy, they have to discard one of their Candies to make room for the new one.

While free Candies can be earned by passing over [[Candy Area]]s, there is no way to determine which Candy a player will receive upon crossing one. However, players can also visit [[Candy Shop]]s, where they can purchase a Candy of their choice in exchange for [[coin]]s. Unlike the Orbs and capsules of the three previous installments, Candies cannot be thrown onto [[Blue Space]]s and [[Red Space]]s to create [[Character Space]]s or roadblocks; as such, they instead function like the items from ''[[Mario Party]]'', ''[[Mario Party 2]]'', ''[[Mario Party 3]]'', and ''[[Mario Party 4]]''.

Additionally, the grand prize awarded to the winner of [[Mario Party 8#Star Battle Arena|Star Battle Arena]] is a year's supply of Candy.
