File revision dispute[edit]

So I noticed the current version of this file is weird. Prior to October 2021, the box artwork used reflected the initial physical release in Japan. It was updated with a "higher quality" box art that while seemed like an upgrade, is actually a different version of the box art. This box art appears to originate from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Classics application (Mario's Super Picross was added in September 2020), why is that? That's because there is a different physical release that came later which advertises a 4000 yen Super Famicom system coupon. Notice that the position of this advertisement is on the bottom left. If you haven't noticed with the Nintendo Classics NSO box artwork, there is an empty gap to where the coupon was present. It seems a modified version of the coupon ticket box art was used which while it sounds strange, it's actually not unusual for box art to be modified for the NSO app. You can see a few examples here on The Cutting Room Floor regarding the Famicom/NES application. I don't why we should keep using the currently used revision when it doesn't represent any of the original physical releases in Japan. You can look for yourself! I have also created a comparison image between the three different box art versions just to make it very clear that all of them are different. It doesn't make sense why we can't upload the differing versions when other gallery pages are more than open to having said differing versions for other games. I've reverted my changes; I misremembered and thought the game's release on NSO was after the 2023 upload and that that upload was from original cover art, apologies. And the differing versions have been uploaded separately; they've both been displayed on the gallery, just labelled differently when I made the mistake. Thank you for reverting the changes. I do think it is my responsibility to communicate better regarding changes like this which could have prevented this conflict. Regarding the current version of the NSO box art being used, I do think it should be changed to a .png upload of the ripped asset used in the application (which you can view at Spriters Resource). While the resolution is lower, I do think the .png file is a lot sharper compared to the currently used .jpg file. Icon of Roo the Kangaroo Bro3256 (talk) 11:09, October 9, 2025 (EDT)
I think overall quality should still be prioritised and the jpg has better quality overall due to its size compared to the png (and the jpg looks just as sharp if not more when scaled to the same size as the png, while the png's fine text is slightly blurrier).
