A parade is a celebratory event that occurs during the credits roll of some Paper Mario games, as well as Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (and its remake) and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. It showcases most of the characters who appear in their respective game, along with events and places in its story. It is akin to the cast roll from Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario World, where screens show all the characters or enemies in the game.

Parades are most often seen at the end of RPG games.

After the last float rolls by, Geno flies up into the air, and fireworks begin to go off near the Castle. The scene switches to the Star Road, and Geno creates the letters in THE END, while he turns into the D. The music will then switch to a lullaby rendition of the Super Mario Bros. ground theme and the words will begin to shine endlessly until the game is turned off or reset.

In the game's remake, the daytime part of the parade uses the original game's graphics and music, while the nighttime part changes to the remastered graphics and music. This time, the star-shaped float does not back away, but stays in place instead. Mallow (holding the Geno doll) and Bowser come from their respective places in the parade to join Mario and Peach on the float, and all four watch the fireworks together. Also, when the "The End" screen appears, the player can save their progress and return back into the game.

At the end, during the credits, a parade is shown similar to Super Mario RPG. Luigi leads the parade again; this duty is implied to be the "top secret" important business that he alluded to earlier when leaving Mario. Six Toads walk by with trumpets, drums, and flags. Afterward, the Star Ship goes by with all of Mario's partners - Goombario, Kooper, Bombette, Parakarry, Lady Bow, Watt, Sushie, and Lakilester - on it. Three female Toads walk by, followed by Chuck Quizmo and Vanna T.

The Koopa Bros. come by next on a car that resembles the fake Bowser. Four Bob-ombs explode on them. In the background, a lake goes by with the whale, with Kolorado and his wife on its back. Moustafa and some mice meet up with Rowf and Rhuff, while Tutankoopa is being chased by a Chomp, and escapes it. Buzzar and his mountain fly by, and three eggs in Buzzar's nest hatch. As Bootler comes onscreen, Tutankoopa is now being chased by three Chomps. Tubba Blubba appears to be floating through the air, but is really being carried by Boos. Tubba's Heart chases after his body. A tree goes by with the Goomba King stuck in it, and the Red & Blue Goomba Bros. circling around it. The Goomba King falls out of the tree.

In addition, during the pictures of the boss encounters, several bigger bosses or minibosses briefly appear onscreen (shadowed, like the others). These are Blooper, Hooktail, Magnus von Grapple, Atomic Boo, Cortez, Smorg, Magnus von Grapple 2.0, and Shadow Queen. Shadow Queen appears around the same time as Mario and Peach.

Remake
The sequel, Super Paper Mario, has only images of the game and no character parade during the ending credit.
In the Nintendo Switch remake, the parade is now based on a curtain call of a stage play, set within the battle stage with a movie theater screen above showcasing screenshots from the game while an audience of characters watch. Some of these screenshots have more than one partner, which is not possible in normal gameplay. Parakarry starts the parade off this time instead of Luigi (who is sitting in the audience instead). Once Parakarry flies off the stage, the curtains open showing the game's title logo and the credits start rolling.

Goombella walks onstage shortly joined by Professor Frankly. A Rogueport Goomba, Little Mouser, Bandit and Doogan walk onstage next and run off as the Blooper appears squirting ink on the stage. Kroop and Koopley walk onstage and Koops and Koopie Koo dash into them in their shells. Ms. Mowz falls into the center and jumps off when a horde of Dull Bones arrive, along with two Paratroopas and a Red Bones, which all run off as Hooktail breathes fire at them.

A group of Punies and Jabbies arrive, among which include Punio, Petuni, Puniper, and Jabble, and some Punies floating in bubbles are blown away by Flurrie. The Puni elder comes behind Flurrie and startles her. Stewart takes a bow, followed by Jolene, Prince Mush, and a Glitz Pit security member walking onstage. Spiky Joe, King K, Bandy Andy, Rawk Hawk, and The Iron Adonis Twins follow, and Hoggle chases the Yoshi egg across the stage which Yoshi Kid hatches out off and chases Hoggle off the stage. Grubba walks onstage between the Glitzville reporter and the Lakitu cameraman, and Grubba transforms into Macho Grubba.

Four pigs walk onstage followed by Doopliss and five Boos. Doopliss turns into his Mario disguise and leaves with the Boos, after which the pigs transform into Mayor Dour, a male Twilighter, a female Twilighter, and a child Twilighter. The Three Shadows pop up in the center, with Vivian staying longer than Beldam and Marilyn. Flavio is carried onstage by four orange Toads, and is followed by Frankie, Francesca, Bobbery, Pa-Patch, and a crew Bob-omb. Six Embers appear around them and Whacka pops up on the left side of the stage, and Cortez drops down in his first battle form and scares Flavio away. Cortez then turns into a floating head and blows Bobbery off the stage.

Pennington slowly walks onstage accompanied by Chef Shimi, the Excess Express Waitress, Zip Toad, Toodles, Heff T. and the Businessman. Ghost T. follows them and scares them all off. As Ghost T. rises to a bright light, a horde of Smorgs bounce past. Bub runs onstage holding the Autograph, followed by Goldbob and Sylvia. The Fahr Outpost Mayor walks onstage followed by lots of other Bob-ombs carrying a sleeping General White. As General White is put down and wakes up, the Bob-ombs explode and parachute in the foreground.

An X-Naut, X-Naut PhD, and Elite X-Naut walk onstage, and run off as Lord Crump rides an X-Naut platoon in a ball formation. Crump and four X-Nauts land in the center of the stage and Grodus strikes them with lightning. Bowser falls on top of Grodus with Kammy Koopa accompanying him. Grodus is then decapitated by the Shadow Queen, who walks onstage in her Peach form and has her true form appear behind her. Mario stomps on the Shadow Queen, and Peach returns to her normal self.

The game's partners (with or without Ms. Mowz depending on if she was recruited), as well as Bowser and Kammy Koopa, then rise from the bottom and begin celebrating as confetti and streamers go off. When the camera pans out, TEC can be seen at the top of the curtain. The audience soon face the player and celebrate as well. Any emblems equipped are still in effect for Mario, but not for Doopliss’s Mario disguise, and Yoshi Kid retains whichever color he was in for the game.

Two Spinies hold a replica of the gate that heads into Drybake Desert. The keys then reveal themselves and the environment then turns into a desert. The following float combines the first three levels of World 2 which features the Yoshi Sphinx from the titular level and two graves from Sandshifter Ruins, which two Dry Bones pop out of. On the top of the float are two Pokeys, which rotate to form their yellow and green counterparts. On the right of the float is  the Paratroopa squad, who ambushed Mario in the Sphinx. The next float is based on Drybake Stadium. The float has a fountain inside, which the Toad from Damp Oasis relaxes on with his deckchair. 3 Mural Toads pop out of the entrence, while a Mural Goomba and Mural Koopa appear in the middle of the building.
