The game manual states this as Enemy Course.--FREAK ~Game GameBros.png Freak~ OUT!

OK, I'll move this page to this name :D! Nintendo 64 logo Vini64 Nintendo 64 logo

Is that it for NSMBU? Can't be[edit]

There's a few more of them in NSMBU, isn't there?

See the clouds in the middle of the Meringue Clouds path? Don't Banzai Bills appear there?

Aren't Urchins and Porcupuffers also in Sparkling Waters?

And does Rock-Candy Mines have any enemy courses?

BooDestroyer (talk) 23:57, 25 November 2012 (EST)

Nah, I checked videos and there are Fuzzies in Meringue Clouds, no enemies in Rock-Candy Mines, no Porcupuffers in Sparkling Waters. BooDestroyer (talk)

Mistake[edit]

Some of the Enemy Counts are incorrect.

Mario never battles 4 Ice Bros.

Mario battles 8 Podoboos, not 9. J991 14:15, 24 July 2011 (EDT)

trivia[edit]

I thought the music was from Dr. Mario?

I think SMB3 came before Dr. Mario so that is why it doesn't say Dr. Mario. Fuzzy in New Super Mario Bros. UYoshiGo99Artwork of a Yoshi egg on a tilt. It is unknown whether this artwork was released with a certain game or not.

NSMB Hammer Bros[edit]

I feel the Hammer Bros. situation from the original New Super Mario Bros. should be added in at least some capacity. It is just as similar a concept as the 3 and Wii ones are to each other, down to getting an item for it (plus the original iteration being Hammer Bro family-exclusive, unless you count the borderline Piranha Plant stages in World 7). It really feels like the same concept being reworked by the developers, only to be reworked further in Wii to something more stable. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:41, July 5, 2023 (EDT)

What does that make the red flying blocks then? To my eye, that's clearly what the Hammer Bros in NSMB are going of, with two red flying blocks in the first four worlds that give an item in a course, with the latter four worlds having one of the blocks replaced by a Hammer Bro that also gives an item. Those are more like a watered down Treasure Ship or white Mushroom House. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:08, July 5, 2023 (EDT)
Well, my primary point here is the we shouldn't assume that absoloutely everything follows some sort of concept from a previous game. The way I see it, the red flying blocks and the Hammer Bros appear to be their own concept that didn't return in any later games: both going around the map, appearing in the course it hovers over and gives a power-up during the course, and as I said a Hammer Bro replaces one of the two red flying blocks in later worlds most likely to make the game that little bit harder. Wii definitely did bring back the original concept from SMB3, but concerning this game and with this looking like its own concept exclusive to this game, I'd rather not try and lump them all together. We certainly can't dive into the minds of the developers. Mario jumping Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 13:27, July 5, 2023 (EDT)
Of the three, only SMB3/NSMBU and NSMB have the goal of "defeat the enemy" to get the item; NSMBW's is different in how it involves collecting items to win. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:34, July 5, 2023 (EDT)
At most, it might be worth an offhand mention as a similar concept, but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's definitely the same thing. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 13:52, July 5, 2023 (EDT)
Although these Hammer Bros. are a similar concept to Enemy Courses, they're not fought on a separate screen. Instead, the player fights them at the beginning of a regular course. In my opinion, that doesn't make them Enemy Courses. Drago (talk) 13:57, July 5, 2023 (EDT)

Name[edit]

I'm a bit conflicted about the new name. On the one hand, "Enemy Battle" is newer, but on the other hand it feels way too generic. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 12:44, January 15, 2024 (EST)

Manuals packed with the game generally take higher priority than guide source, regardless if those are technically newer. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:13, January 25, 2024 (EST)
