Sooooooo... If it was named Koopa in NP, how do we know it's a "Bro.?"
Sooooooo... If it was named Koopa in NP, how do we know it's a "Bro.?"
:Because his Japanese name includes "Bro." --Grandy02 14:44, 25 January 2010 (EST)
Not a Troopa
Can we remove this guy from "Koopa Troopas" now, since the "evidence" that it was a Troopa was disproven? -Doc von Schmeltwick 4:30, 12 June 2017 (CT)
:What evidence are you referring to? 15:19, 2 August 2017 (EDT)
::It previously was titled "Spiked Koopa Troopa" saying the name came from Nintendo Power, but then it was changed to "Spiked Pirate" with the source being the same. Since then, "Spiked Koopa" has also been added, so I'm not sure now. -Doc von Schmeltwick 16:15, 2 August 2017 (CT)
:::It should be noted that Toge Bros. clearly points it to being a member of the Hammer Bros. family, whereas Pirate Koopa can refer to a type of Koopa or Koopa Troopa; if the former, there's no contradiction. LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:21, 2 August 2017 (EDT)
::::I know. I personally despise it when people just call Koopa Troopas "Koopas," since there are so many other types. I call them "Troopas," but the only media to do so were the DiC cartoons. I personally reserve "Koopa" to refer to all of the Turtle Tribe, or when used specifically, to refer to Bowser's subspecies (which of course has no official name; the closest thing to it is "Royal Koopa," and Walkazo calls them "Dragon Koopas" as I learned recently), but given so many other Troopas are just called "Koopas," who knows regarding this? Doc von Schmeltwick 16:27, 2 August 2017 (CT)
:::::I say let's see if the source explicitly called it a Koopa Troopa; if not, it's safe enough to consider a Bro. LinkTheLefty (talk) 21:33, 2 August 2017 (EDT)
::::::This is the source. 21:38, 2 August 2017 (EDT)
:::::::Well, then he isn't. That settles that. Doc von Schmeltwick 20:42, 2 August 2017 (CT)

I like those sprites, but I was planning on grouping all the shell sprites and all the damaged sprites together, and showing all the effects on the sheet.

Shell sprites and effects. I just wanted to do this because I wanted all the shell sprites to be grouped together and add the effects.

Okay let's not make any more edit skirmishes about this. How is their name based off of Spiny's Japanese name? They are based off of Hammer Bro and look nothing like spiny, and "toge" is just a term for "spiky". And unlike Bros., "Toge" is not a consistent species-indicative naming scheme. These guys are prickly so they're "Toge", like how mister sea-urchin-with-feet is "Toge" in Japanese just because it's prickly. I don't see the Togezo connection here. Somethingone (talk) 11:07, May 6, 2022 (EDT)
:As Doc says, Spinies are known for retracting in their shells and spinning out on their own in the odd appearance, starting with Super Mario Bros. 3. This is very similar to the behavior of this boss. I'm in the "why not" camp here. Doesn't hurt to mention. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:21, May 6, 2022 (EDT)
::SMB3 Spinies drop from the ceiling and spin upside-down. This thing's behavior is more comparable to SMW Ludwig. 14:15, May 6, 2022 (EDT)
:::You can make them spin rightside-up. Anyways, I still think there's enough of a possibility it was meant to be named for both it should stay. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:30, May 6, 2022 (EDT)
