:Agree, the game even tells that Springs originate from Donkey Kong Jr., it's just another name for Trampolines. The same goes for Magic Vines and Beanstalks, they should be merged as well. --Grandy02 10:04, 14 December 2008 (EST)

Yes, I know that these are all similar in that they bounce characters, but that's the only similarity they have. High Springs and Long Springs from the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series look very different from usual Springboards (Springboards fold more like an accordion, while High Springs and Long Springs have two beady eyes, different color schemes, and coil springs) and act different too (The player can control how high the character bounces with Springboards, a feat not possible with High Springs and Long Springs. Players can also carry Springboards, while they can only add and remove High Springs and Long Springs at designated locations.). Therefore, I propose we split both High Spring and Long Spring into their own articles.

#rollerC Per Bazooka Mario below. As they said, to remove these specific springboards from the article seems like an odd nitpick considering the slew of different forms and types of springboards listed in the article. As was discussed in the proposal above this one, if they serve the same purpose, they belong in the same article, at least in this instance. Mentioning different appearances is like saying every different look of a Goomba across the series needs to be in their own articles because they look different in each game, and the slightly different functions of a player being unable to carry the Springs or control their height does not warrant a new article in my opinion. If these Springs should be split into a new article, so should those laid out below, which would likely be more inconvenient for a peruser of the Wiki than just having them all in one location. A user looking for one specific version of the Spring would know what game it was coming from. They would arrive in the Springboard article, and see the Table of Contents. They would click Mario vs. Donkey Kong series and get all the information they need on High and Long Springs. I see no point in splitting the article.

Different appearances is not a good reason to me. In the article, the springboard has varied appearances as well as varied levels of interaction. Within the Paper Mario series, for instance, the springs look completely different and have different functions (and they don't control Mario's jumping either). In Club Nintendo, it's a coil spring. There's also the Super Mario Run springboard which isn't pressure-triggered and it also looks a lot different. The springs still have their straightforward purpose of launching characters higher than normal. That characters can't control how high they jump isn't a deal breaker to me, nor are their different appearances. But if we're going to split those two specific ones, you have to justify why those springboards I mentioned need to stay in the article. 13:59, 31 July 2018 (EDT)

:@Bazooka Mario: This is not because they're vaguely similar to the Springboard, but because they're two different types of Springs; one always launches Minis straight up, while one always launches Minis over long distances. 09:14, 1 August 2018 (EDT)
::Paper Mario has two different types of springs too. They also made of an accordion while most other springs have collapsible wires. And you're still splitting them based on function and appearance; what makes the one in Super Mario Run unique aside from not having additional variations of it? 14:01, 1 August 2018 (EDT)
:::See Yoshi the SSM's comment below. Also, I never realized how padded out this article is, so I guess I'll cancel and begin anew with a new proposal to address the sheer problems with this article. Toadette the Achiever
::::I'd much prefer that, thank you. This article is just a pain to read through. rollerC (talk) 13:59, 2 August 2018 (EDT)

@rollerC: Just so you know, having lots of similar info in one place isn't by itself a good reason to keep things merged. 09:16, 1 August 2018 (EDT)
:That's not my only reason for keeping these merged, but even still I think in this instance, it is applicable. No one will know the exact name of the spring they're looking for. They'll know the series in which it came from, not the exact name of the High Spring and Long Spring. If we want it to be clear that there are two different types of Springs, that can be quickly explained in the respective article. I understand that this is regarding everything but the kitchen sink concerns perhaps, however I still don't believe that the differences here are potent enough to warrant their separation from the article, much less into each of their own articles. Again, if the distinction between High and Long Springs is what's important, then that can be noted in the article. Seeing as the article lists every single type of spring/springboard in the Mario series, I'm not willing to remove these two specific types from the exhaustive list unless the entire article is reformed. I still believe this page should remain merged, because these Springs being ever so slightly different is not good enough to split them to me. Feel free to prove me wrong. rollerC (talk) 13:02, 1 August 2018 (EDT)
::It is named in a game, so if they want to look these up, they know the exact name. However, the only difference between them is the distance. Height is the same. The only thing that the game tries to split them is that if both are on the play field, they count towards separate counters. You just can't change a Vertical to Horizontal or vice versa. It's hard to know what exactly to do here... at least for me. 13:19, 1 August 2018 (EDT)
:::My mistake regarding their naming. I personally believe the article is a mess anyway because of everything but the kitchen sink, but this is not a good way to go about fixing it. The trampoline also appeared in Super Mario Bros. Special for PC. It was known for being very glitchy.

The section for SMW calls this a trampoline because of the GBA manual and Nintendo Power Advance. However, everything else refers to this by its SNES manual name "Jumping Board". Shouldn't we rename the SMW incarnations trampolines because of the new name? PrincessPeachFan (talk) 00:15, October 21, 2024 (EDT)
