| The giant banana looks similar to a normal banana, in larger form. However, the face on a normal banana is happy, while the giant banana has an angry expression similar to the volcano on the [[DK Mountain]] course.

| This oversized banana is great for defensive purposes, because it is able to stop any [[Green Shell|Green]] or [[Red Shell|Red]] shell, but not the [[Blue Spiny Shell]], which can fly over or around it (and only breaks when hit with [[Bowser's Shell]] or an explosive). When a kart hits it, the kart is slowed down more than it would be by a normal banana, and the banana breaks into 3 small, normal sized bananas, which spread out onto the track. On narrow paths (like the bridge on DK Mountain) they can be placed so that karts, especially larger, wider karts, have no way to avoid them.
