Firebrand is a move used by Mario during the events of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. It is also the brother move of the Thunderhand. He is taught this by the Fire God in the Fire Palace. It is even further advanced after Gigi teaches him how to use it along with Luigi.
Firebrand can light Fire Lamps and other ignitable objects. In battle it proves useful against certain enemies. They can also use Fire Bros. after the Jellyfish Sisters teach Mario the advanced method. After the advanced method is taught, Mario can use it when behind Luigi causing him to run extremely fast in one direction and tow Mario behind him. This can be used to pass through fast-moving spiked barrels. It also can be used to knock down cannon ball-like objects and Ankoopas.
The move is also referenced in the final battle of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. The boss had an attack where an energy ball would be fired at UFOs, and if the UFO was on fire, it would crash into Mario and Baby Mario, and if it was emitting electricity, it would crash into Luigi and Baby Luigi, a reference to Mario learning how to use fire and Luigi learning electricity.
