Grindel is a character in Super Mario 64. He may appear as a mummified thwomp, but he is perfectly cubed and has a different eye style and smile. He tries to smush mario in the pyramid in shifting sandland.
Grindel also appears in Mario Party 2, in Lava Tile Isle. Contestants push and fight while the grindel move, to get the characters into the lava.
