Hammer is Kirby's side special move introduced in Super Smash Bros. Melee and returning in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, based on the Hammer Copy Ability in the Kirby series. The move itself is similar to the Hammer Flip move, with Kirby pulling out the hammer and quickly swinging it. When used in the air in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Kirby swings the hammer around vertically, similar to the Giant Swing move used by the Hammer ability; on Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Kirby instead swings the hammer twice horizontally.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, this move is replaced with the Hammer Flip, which is closer to the original move.
