Phantamanta

Phantamanta, oozing its way onto Sirena Beach.

Phantamanta is a boss in Super Mario Sunshine. It's a pink silhouette ghost-like stingray that attacks on Sirena Beach. When hit by water from FLUDD, it splits up into smaller ones. Once all the small phantamantas are split into their smallest form, they turn purple and rush towards Mario.

It leaves a trail of green and yellow electric sludge goop. If there is even a pixel of it left, Mario can get electrocuted when he touches it. The most effective way to defeat the Phantamanta and the sludge is to spray them with a single, powerful blast. However, it isn't easy. It turns out be one of the hardest bosses in the game. The Phantamanta first divides into two. Each of those Mantas can divide into two more. Each of those divide into four Mantas. Each of those can further divide into four more Mantas making a total of 64 Mantas to defeat. When all of the Mantas have divided fully, they will turn purple and start swarming Mario.

In Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, a name on the scoreboards is Phantamanta.
