Klubba, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

Klubba's Kiosk is a small outpost operated by Klubba in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2. It is where he was assigned by Kaptain K. Rool to prevent others from entering the Lost World, though Diddy and Dixie Kong can bribe him with Kremkoins to enter the area. A Klubba's Kiosk is in most worlds except for Gangplank Galleon and The Flying Krock.

Klubba's Kiosk has a rundown shack, with TOLL painted on the roof, and a small wooden plank for crossing a polluted swamp (judging from an overturned oil drum). In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, a punching bag with Diddy's face and a pair of boxing gloves appear in the background. The hollow trees in the background suggest that Klubba's Kiosk takes place near a spooky forest, possibly Gloomy Gulch as hinted in Donkey Kong Land 2.

In the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version, the area is also used for the end credits when the game lists its "Cast of Characters".

History

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

Klubba greeting Diddy.
Diddy in Klubba's Kiosk in the Game Boy Advance version

In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, the Kongs first encounter Klubba in Crocodile Cauldron. He gives a few options to Diddy and Dixie:

  • Pay Up: If the Kongs pay fifteen Kremkoins to Klubba, he allows them to enter the Lost World. The Kongs can access the Monkey Museum and a specific level from a Klubba's Kiosk in each world.
  • Fight!!!: If the Kongs choose this option, Klubba swings his cudgel at them, forcing them out of the Kiosk.
  • Bag a Bug (exclusive to the Game Boy Advance version): If chosen, the Kongs pay Klubba five Banana Coins to play a mini-game called Bag a Bug; in the mini-game, either Diddy or Dixie have to collect fireflies around Klubba's Kiosk while being chased by Klubba. The Kongs' reward improves based on how many they caught (the prizes consist of Bananas, Banana Bunches, or Red Balloons).
  • Run Away: This option is identical to Fight!!!

These are the levels that can be accessed from the corresponding Klubba's Kiosk of a world:

World Lost World entryway
Crocodile Cauldron Jungle Jinx
Krem Quay Black Ice Battle
Krazy Kremland Klobber Karnage
Gloomy Gulch Fiery Furnace
K. Rool's Keep Animal Antics

In the Game Boy Advance version, a Lost World level can be accessed from any Klubba's Kiosk if the Kongs have paid the respective world's Kremkoin fee to Klubba. In both versions of the game, after the Kongs pay all 75 Kremkoins to Klubba and beat the respective levels, they can access the final area, Krocodile Kore, from any Klubba's Kiosk.

If the Kongs re-enter a Klubba's Kiosk which they already paid a fee at, they directly enter the Golden Barrel without the options menu being brought up. In the Game Boy Advance version, the options are first brought up to Diddy and Dixie, regardless whether or not they have paid Kremkoins at that kiosk. The remake also shows a different scenery for each world, just like Kong Kollege.

Klubba's Kiosk is the background setting for the ending's Cast of Characters. The Game Boy Advance version shows various scenes, although Klubba's Kiosk is not one of them.

Donkey Kong Land 2

Klubba's Kiosk reappears in Donkey Kong Land 2. Unlike its previous appearance, there is only one Klubba's Kiosk, and it appears on the Crocodile Isle map, to the left of Gloomy Gulch. Diddy and Dixie can access it after completing Gloomy Gulch.

Klubba's Kiosk has some design changes for its first appearance. It is no longer engulfed by a polluted swamp, and the Golden Barrel no longer appears. Most of the background scenery was removed except for the toll. A swamp environment appears in the background. The location was effectively mirrored as Klubba appears on the left side rather than on the right side.

Klubba offers only two options:

  • PAY UP: Diddy or Dixie must pay all 47 Kremkoins to Klubba to access the entire Lost World. Unlike Donkey Kong Country 2, each level of the Lost World is completed in order, like the other worlds. After the Kongs pay him, the option is changed to ENTER LOSTWORLD.
  • RUN AWAY: Klubba yells at Diddy or Dixie, who leave out of Klubba's Kiosk. Unlike the previous game, Klubba does not whack the Kongs with his club to force them out of the area.

Like the previous game, Klubba's Kiosk remains as the background scene in the ending's Cast of Characters.
