Electroids are enemies which appear in Donkey Kong Country Returns, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. They are purple electric spheres with two eyes, which are locked in round cages full of a violet matter. Generally, Electroids make an electricity line, linking each other. In the former, they move near holes and narrow tunnels that the Kongs must pass. In Switcheroo, they can be eliminated if the Kongs activate the colored switch platforms that the Electroids are contacted in, causing them to be pushed out of the area.

Electroids[1] are enemies in Donkey Kong Country Returns, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and its Nintendo Switch port. They appear as electric spheres with two beady eyes, being purple in Donkey Kong Country Returns while displaying a bluish tint in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze to correspond to the game's arctic theme. Electroids are usually encountered in groups, forming electrical links between each other that damage the Kongs when touched.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong Country Returns[edit]

In Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Electroids only appear in the Factory levels, moving near gaps and narrow passages in the Kongs' path. Electroids can generally not be defeated except if the Kongs throw a BuckBomb at one. In the level Switcheroo, Electroids hover in front of red and blue blocks, which appear in the background. When Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong activate switch platforms that an Electroid passes over, the enemy is pushed off-screen.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze[edit]

A pair of Electroids in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

In Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Electroids are the only returning enemy from the previous game's Factory world. They only appear in one level, Frozen Frenzy. They either hover in place or along a set path in midair. Some of them appear beneath platforms with wired vines on either side; tilting the platform too low on one side causes the corresponding wire to make contact with an Electroid, creating a current of electricity throughout the entire mechanism that can harm the Kongs.
