New users are now immediately welcomed through [[MediaWiki:Welcomecreation]] when they create an account, so it's no longer necessary to welcome them on their talk page. However, if you absolutely must welcome a new user:
* The {{tem|welcome}} template has been retired. Do not add it to any more pages.
* Creating user talk pages for the sole purpose of welcoming new users is prohibited.


* You may only edit/create a new user's talk page if they have made at least one edit on the wiki.
That being said, if you have to contact a new user for some other reason, feel free to welcome them with a short custom message included in your correspondence (no transclusions).


This rule exists to prevent us from having thousands of user talk pages which exist for users who haven't actually done anything.
