Kannons are large cannon-wielding members of the Kremling Krew first appearing in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.
History
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Kannons are common enemies, and attack by shooting barrels or kannonballs at the Kongs in whatever direction they're facing, either forward or downward. Kannons can be found in several levels, but mostly underground areas. Despite being large and burly, Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong can easily defeat a Kannon with any attack method. In the ending cast of characters, a Kannon appears under the "Kremling Kuthroats" enemy class.
According to the instruction booklet, Kannons are simply Klumps trained to use such weapons.[1] However, while normal Klumps wear army gear (green helmet, grenade belt, etc.) Kannons wear more of a pirate ensemble, such as earrings, a large belt, and a large black hat with a skull and cross-bones on it. Also, Kannons seem to have distinct ears.
Kannons appear in the following levels:
- Kannon's Klaim
- Squawks's Shaft
- Rattle Battle
- Slime Climb
- Bramble Scramble
- Mudhole Marsh
- Rambi Rumble
- Gusty Glade
- Web Woods
- Windy Well
- Chain Link Chamber
- Toxic Tower
- Animal Antics
Donkey Kong Land 2
Kannons in Donkey Kong Land 2 behave similarly as in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. They once again first appear in the game's equivalent of their namesake level, Kannon's Klaim.
Super Mario-kun
A Kannon makes a brief cameo in Volume 14 of Super Mario-kun. The last part of the book has a series of comics based on Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, including a 'find the differences' activity between several enemies, including Kannon.
