:I think if there's internal data that backs up the name used, it's worth looking into, but I do know he only stated to me that Swirlypod and Trompette were official, because those are the two I asked about. It's possible something else mentioned in the article was officially sourced from Nintendo as well, but there's really no direct way of knowing without asking further and I think Wow Bud is a clear example of not everything being official. When it comes to stuff like "Topple Rock" or "Downpour Cloud", if they're backed up by internal sources, I think it may very well be worth arguing in favor of using those, it's just a bit up in the air and when it comes to things like "Snake-like Bill" where it appears more conjectural than anything they shouldn't be used unless there's some sort of official confirmation. I could try asking again for further clarification on some of the other names, though I'd be a bit worried about bothering him unnecessarily, so if I did so I'd want to get a full list together of things to ask about. ::Well, like Nintendo101 says, the best place to cover ground would be capitalized names. I'd almost want to mention lowercase names that were mentioned more than once like "flame wheel" since it's close to the Japanese name (note that "Jewel Block" is capitalized though it's lowercase in the internal localized string, and "Downpour Cloud" is also "downpour cloud" in Game Informer). "Flower Bud" was likely a mistake since it's "flower bud" at least 41 times, so maybe that oughtn't count. We don't have a singular form for "Mumsy" in English outside of that article yet as far as I know, but it matches the Dutch name. "Galoomba" is mentioned more than once in reference to Goombrat, so it could be worth it to mention and figure out if the mistake was on Nintendo's part or Game Informer's. Then there are the giants, but those probably don't count because a number of those are at the beginning of a sentence, though maybe the Spike Ball is worth mentioning since the current name is inconsistent with its normal size. So if you put all of that aside and just wanted to dwindle it down to the big ones, I guess that would be Ghost Mario and Topple Rock. So maybe, leave it to those two, and then add something like, "to help out the wiki, would you be willing to share your list of cover-story names for completeness' sake? If not, I understand." ::Update: a series of Super Mario Bros. Wonder enemy articles is apparently being launched on the Japanese Nintendo website, and it includes English names. Interestingly, the first reconfirms Trompette and deconfirms Ghost Mario. With any luck, subsequent articles will serve to cover the gaps. So if you still wanted to ask Shea, we'd only need the Topple Rock and Giant Spike Ball obstacles, but if not, that's fine. :::Gotcha, I've been a bit busy lately so haven't gotten around to it. Might consider sending a followup, but this is a nice thing to see! BubbleRevolution (talk) 13:53, January 26, 2024 (EST) |
