Wario encounters Pinwheels during his thieving adventure in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. They appear as spiked seahorses native to water levels. Their first appearance is in Course No. 7 of the Mt. Teapot region. They can be seen patroling some water areas of the game, and will curl up to a spiked ball to attack Wario when they see him. Although they oppose Wario, they bear no sign of being affiliated with Captain Syrup and the Brown Sugar Pirates, so it can be assumed that they attack Wario merely because he crossed their turf, instead of being motivated personally.
