World 8-7 is the ninth level of World 8 in New Super Mario Bros. It becomes accessible after completing World 8-6.
Layout[edit]
This level features multiple varieties of Koopa Troopas and Hammer Bros. Even though it is an athletic level, the underground theme plays in this course to fit with the theme of World 8. It is the only normal level in the second part of World 8 to play this music. Also, the gray tileset from World 6 is used instead of the black volcanic one, most likely because there is a thin ledge section.
The level begins with the player needing to clear a gap, with two Koopa Paratroopas hovering in between. After a few more gaps and Paratroopas, the player will come across a Sledge Bro on top of breakable blocks. Past the Sledge Bro is a section full of thin ledges that the player must balance on, with several coins available for the player to obtain. After the section with thin ledges is passed, the level's midway point is reached.
After the midway point, a pair of Fire Bros. will try to attack the player. Within a ? Block that one of them is standing on is a Starman, which can be used to score multiple 1-UPs from the Koopa Troopas in the next area. This area contains vertically- and horizontally-moving platforms, one of which is patrolled by a Boomerang Bro. Past the Boomerang Bro is solid ground, with a Sledge Bro in the area.
After getting past the Sledge Bro and another Boomerang Bro, the player will come across a Red Ring and a Pipe Cannon; the latter takes the player to the pole on a path of Red Coins created by the former. Some Paratroopas are available to give the player a potential boost to the top of the pole.
