He is afraid of fire to the point that when he sees it he runs in fear. He is smitten with the beautiful [[Melody Pianissima]], but it seems that she does not return his affections at all.
Shivers is found wandering the north corridor of the first floor hallway after Luigi captures the [[The Floating Whirlindas|Floating Whirlindas]]. At first, he appears as nothing but a floating candelabra. When the [[Poltergust 3000]] gains the ability to expel flames, [[Luigi]] can light his candelabra. It causes him to panic and run into the [[Butler's Room]], where Shivers sits and starts complaining to himself, which is when he becomes vulnerable. If Luigi vacuums Shivers but does not capture him in one try, Shivers reappears at the entrance of the room, and if Luigi does not vacuum the ghost up quickly, he leaves the room and returns to the upper hall. In 3DS Boss Rush mode, the battle starts with Shivers sitting on the chair. After Luigi sucks up Shivers, the lights come on, and he earns the [[key]] to the [[Conservatory (Luigi's Mansion)|Conservatory]].

When the Poltergust 3000 gains the ability to expel flames, Luigi used this ability to light the candles Shivers is holding to cause him to panic and run into the [[Butler's Room]]. Luigi followed him there. Despite the scared butler accidentally running the wrong way, Luigi hurried into the Butler's room. There he sat felling relaxed, until he accidentally put the fire candlestick under him and being the frightened butler he is, he will start screaming and rolling around in his chair. The infamous green plumber realized he was as vulnerable as ever and sucked up the poor butler. If Luigi didn't vacuum him quickly, he'll leave and return to the upper hall.

After Luigi sucked up this scared stiff butler, the lights will come on, and he earned the key to the [[Conservatory]], where Luigi gets the chance to capture the next portrait ghost, which appropriately enough, is Melody Pianissima.
